K. Michelle has always been a very transparent music artist who doesn’t shy away from opening up her fans about her personal struggles, so we’re not surprised she decided to get real about her ongoing drinking problem.

In a recent interview with Hot 97, K.Michelle explains how she realized that she might be an alcoholic. She says:

“I drank Jack Daniels with no chaser, just the bottle to the head… I really did have a drinking problem and it caused a lot of issues.

“That took a toll on me and now I look up and I can have a cocktail…my friends be on three or four and I’m still on one. I don’t like the person I am when I’m really drunk. I now see the difference between sober K. Michelle, tipsy K. Michelle and drunk K. Michelle.

“Tipsy K. Michelle is cute. She’s really fun and the life of the party. But one glass over tipsy K. Michelle? Oh, it’s hell for the world. I’m learning dark liquor is not the move for me especially when I’m already having a day or going through something.”

    1. That’s so true. I had an old friend in college who wouldn’t leave the house without a flask or a bottle of alcohol he would sip on all day. He eventually got help and now he’s a husband and father. He doesn’t even take a sip anymore because he says it almost ruined his life.

  1. Wow that’s real. Much respect to her for trying to fix the situation immediately. I’ve seen alcoholism ruin a lot of families. It’s very serious.

  2. I’m a mean drunk too y’all. I had to stop drinking all together because I hated the person I became when I drank too much. Alcohol isn’t for everyone. Some of us just can’t handle it, and that’s ok.

  3. It’s crazy to read this when I was just thinking the other day that I need to slow it down myself. I had the worst hangover on Sunday, and I’ve had several hangovers in the last few months. That means I need to chill out for a while. I don’t want to develop a drinking problem, especially since I’ve watched several family members struggle with alcoholism.

  4. Sometimes you have to fight for your sanity. You have to remain in control at all times and something you drink should not uproot your entire life. Our world is immoral, insane, and sometimes just plain disrespectful. These things hit us head-on! Literally. It’s okay to step back and let the brain relax a little. If you’re feeling fine and not over doing it, drink a little something that will calm you down. Some of us need more calming than others. But it’s proper especially in that profession.
