So much for Drake not responding to that recent diss from Jay Z.

Drake released the new track, “Draft Day,” sometime on social media yesterday, and already Hip Hop heads are buzzing about his lyrical content. He samples from Lauryn Hill’s classic track “Doo-Wop (That Thing),” but people are talking because it sounds like he may have taken some subliminal jabs at Jay Z.

He raps:

“I’m focused on makin’ records and gettin’ bigger/ Just hits, no misses, that’s for the married folk”

Unlike Jay Z, Drake wasn’t direct and never named Jay Z, but many seem to think the bar was indeed a diss.

Regardless, most took to social media to praise Drake’s new track, but have a listen for yourself and tell us if you’re feeling it.

  1. I’d respect Drake more if he actually named people in his “disses.” Jay said his name and was clear who he was talking about. This is lame.

  2. That was actually a clever subliminal if you ask me. Anyway, I like this. The Lauyrn Hill sample did it for me. 🙂

  3. Drake did the damn thing. And he’s trying to say that Jay-Z’s last album was weak as hell! And I agree! Drake could take Jay and destroy him. It’s the truth!

  4. This is just ok for me. Off topic, I’m kind of annoyed that Drake even started all this with that catty interview of his. I like him but I just wish he wouldn’t start these petty beefs all the time. It’s dumb.

  5. I don’t know how Drake is calling Jay out for rapping about art all the time when he raps about materialistic ish and sleeping with jumpoffs in most of songs. That is equally as corny.

  6. Typical Drake throwing slugs without a name. Can you say LAME? RiRi needs to show her man how to throw some straight slugs. She an expert in that school your man Ri.

  7. I haven’t listened yet. But I don’t really see how this would be shade toward Jay. Furthermore, Drake isn’t the “battle rapper” type of artist man. I really want him to just stay in his lane, ’cause this is not a good look for him.

  8. I think I like this. I see no diss here, I guess people just took it as that since they haven’t heard from Drake. Not everybody likes to entertain petty ish. I’ve never liked Jay-Z music since I was little & still don’t.
