It was speculated a couple of days ago that Mariah Carey’s upcoming studio album might have been pushed back yet again, but now industry sources are claiming she is planing to pull a Beyonce.

But honestly, Mimi isn’t quite taking the same approach to dropping a new album like Beyonce. Billboard reports:

But, as Billboard exclusively reveals in its latest cover story, Carey will be taking a surprise approach to the project by revealing her new album’s title, track listing, artwork and music all at once via to-be-announced digital partners (a physical release at retail is expected the following week.) “I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title,” Carey says, noting that the album takes its name from a “personal possession of mine that’s part of an entity that I’ve had almost all my life.”

We can’t call this album a surprise like we did Beyonce’s because Mariah herself said it’s coming soon, as opposed to Beyonce just dropping her album out the blue on iTunes with no promotion or warning.

  1. It still kind of sounds like she’s pulling a Beyonce. Either way, I hope the music is good. I haven’t been impressed by her new music as of late.

  2. Copy cat! It is sad that a legend in the game has to resort to copy cat techniques to generate some buzz instead of putting out great music and having her team come up with a original plan. Tuh whatever Mimi

  3. Her team needs to be fired. She’s too much of a legend to be copying anyone. All she needs is some good music and she will do fine. I’m disappointed.

  4. I love Mariah but she should know better than this. She doesn’t need to imitate an idea that was just done to sell this album. Either way though that’s my girl & I hope the music on this album is better than the last one
