R&B singer Jill Scott may be getting more and more serious about her acting career, but she also has plenty of loyal fans who enjoy her music and have been down with Jilly from Philly since her debut studio album.
Although many do enjoy Jill’s music, not everyone feels like she’s done enough to be considered a living legend.
But when her legend status was challenged recently on Twitter, she wasn’t afraid to check a doubter.

That was rude as hell. Jill can sing circles around Adele and her catalogue is better. But because she doesn’t sell as much, some people don’t want to give her credit.
These young fools label people legends based off album sales. F-ck em.
That was unnecessary but then again, Twiter gives people courage they don’t have in real life. But I think she could go down as a legend because of her talent and music alone.
But he’s right though. Where are her Grammys? Platinum albums? How many singers has she influenced?
Are you serious? Jill has classic albums, three Grammys and she’s influenced a lot of younger singers including Adele (Adele said Jill influenced her style). I mean it doesn’t take long to google this stuff.
Her first album went platinum and the two after it went gold. She has also won a few Grammys as well.

Some people and their nerve. Jill was one of the first neo-soul artists to create and perfect the genre in the early 2000s. Her music is great and always has been, she’s a legend so f*ck these people who don’t know good music.
He didn’t even deserve a response cause that was a dumb statement.
So now even black folks are doing like the media and coming for our legends? Smh we are our own worst enemy.

If they are already comparing Adele to legends, I don’t see why it’s a reach to call Jill one. I’ve noticed a lot of black people have such strict requirements when it comes to naming people legends, but let a white singer come through and it’s all good. We are so clueless sometimes. We don’t even realize how much we help white supremacy.
I think a lot of people don’t know what a legend is. It’s not all about album sales either. It’s about a person’s catalog, influence and time of years in the business. Jill has 2 out of the three already. She’ll be 20 years into music in a few years. This person is talking like it will never happen but she’s almost there now.
Almost.
Some people are really haters.
Jill is a beast. Her catalogue, musical influence,versatility, and range secure her as a legend in my eyes. And she’s still putting out classic music.
