Mariah Carey Has Some Words for Younger Music Artists

In an interview with Business Insider, Mariah said she feels like today’s artists care more about the number of social media followers they have than the quality of their music.

She tells Business Insider:

“Here’s the thing, I think now it’s more about people selling themselves, like online. It’s more about, ‘Here’s what I did today. Let me do something and shock the world’ rather than so much about the music.

“I just look at it like, it’s different than when you had to start out and people had to either connect with your song or not. Whereas now you can become a big artist without even necessary having a number one record because of how many followers you have.”

  1. What sucks to us is awesome to these young people. When we were coming up, our parents hated our music too. It is what it is.

    1. Well music is a personal choice and very subjective. But Mariah makes a very good point. It’s like people want attention more than they want to make a real impact on music. It’s not everyone, but it’s enough to make me concerned.
