Mo’Nique has been making headlines plenty as of late because she had some harsh things to say about Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey and Lee Daniels in a recent standup show.
However, she now has some harsh words for anyone who has a problem with her referring to her husband Sidney as daddy.
During their recent podcast, she says:
“So for the women who say, ‘I can’t believe you call your husband daddy,’ I say he’s the first got damn daddy I ever had. Am I clear, sisters? He’s the first daddy I ever had. He’s the first man that ever sat me down and say sh*t to me that I wish my father would have said to me. The first man…and I’m not saying they not out there…the first man I’ve ever seen nurture his got damn sons. And I got uncles. I got brothers. I know other n*ggas. He’s the first man I’ve seen…I’m not saying they not out there. He’s the first man that I’ve seen nurture his family.
“And I will say this to you women, don’t let nobody stop you from loving your man.”
Sidney wanted to make it clear that he refers to Mo’Nique as momma:
“And men, don’t let nobody question you about loving your woman because I call her momma but don’t nobody hear that.”
Mo’Nique then added her two cents:
“All y’all see is me calling him daddy but y’all don’t hear my daddy saying momma because we’ve been so conditioned to be so f*cked up that we stick to that.
“‘Why she calling him daddy? Why she calling him daddy? You lonely b*tch, I’ll tell you why. Because he is. Cause he is.”
Later on in the podcast, Mo’Nique addressed the topic again and claimed that having a smart mouth in her past marriage is why her first husband assaulted her:
“So when I read these motherf*cking blossips and gossip columns and sh*t and they saying, ‘Oh she call him daddy and oh,’ I want to reach through and say b*tch what you call yours? Because if you respect him enough, if you respect him enough you’d be honored to say, ‘Daddy what you want for dinner? Daddy what you need from me?’ Because you know that man is saying, ‘Momma I got you. Momma we good.’ We been so taught sisters, not to love them that when we get a good one we don’t know what to do with him. We don’t know how to treat them. We don’t know how to love them and most men I’ve run into don’t have the patience that my husband has that’s why I’ve been banged in my mouth before. I did. My first one.”
Sidney then stepped in to make sure Mo’Nique remembered that she she returned the violence to her ex:
“You banged him too.”

I never got into calling my husband daddy but her reasons for doing it seem unhealthy.
She needs help.
I have a daddy so I’m not about to be calling my man that. To each its own.
She not the only woman who does that, i hear alot of elders call their spouse mother and father so why people bothered? If thats what she wants to refer to him as than oh well, it hurts no one
Calling your dude daddy and all that ain’t really proof of daddy issues but everything she said after that is. Monique’s whole family is jacked up. I feel bad for her because she deserved better from both of her parents.
I have no problem with Monique calling her husband whatever she wants but her reasoning behind it screams of issues.
Something about her husband gives me red flags. It’s like she’s lost everything since she’s been with him…friends, career, money, sense of self, etc. And he doesn’t mind it as long as she can provide him a platform.
Calling your s/o daddy isn’t a requirement to show respect. It’s not that deep.
