‘Growing Up Hip Hop’ Recap: Brandon’s Artist Showcase is a Disaster + Deb Takes His Artist

Toya confronts Brandon.

“Why are you disrespecting my child? What you’re not gonna do is mess with this one.” – Toya

Toya is downstairs, confronting Brandon with Reginae and their cousins ready to jump him. Ayana is able to calm the cousins down and Toya eventually sends them away. Reginae is mad because she’s late to her own birthday party.

“You can’t help save him. You’re talking about a legend. You’re trying to get where he’s at!” -Toya

Toya goes off on Brandon for claiming he could have helped Lil Wayne’s career, and Brandon is frustrated that he isn’t able to get a word in.

Meanwhile, Reginae is still going off about the situation to Bow Wow and Zonnique back at their table. She feels like there really isn’t any way that she and Brandon can ever get on good terms. Since they can’t ever be friendly, Reginae no longer wants to be around him.

After Toya gives Brandon a piece of her mind, Brandon leaves the hotel.

Toya, on the other hand, tries to have a quick chat with Reginae before she heads to her party. She tells Reginae that she thinks it would be best if she and Brandon both apologize to each other and move on. Reginae refuses.

Bow Wow, Shaniah and Ayana head to the party. Reginae and Toya arrive and take photos with Wayne.

The next day, Brandon heads down to Debra’s office to go over the showcase. He tells her that things hit a snag at rehearsal. He also asks about what she talked about with Toya and Tiny. She says they talked as parents and she felt things were settled.

He tells Debra about what happened at Bow Wow’s birthday dinner for Reginae. She gets mad at him, telling him that he should’ve left the issue alone like she asked him to.

“Let it go, and move on to the next.” – Miss Deb

Brandon also tells Debra how Toya confronted him about everything. Deb says, “Somebody gotta to be a bigger person. Just let the s*** go.”

Ayana gets some good news.

Ayana meets her father DJ Hurricane at home to show him her clothing pieces. She’s afraid that he won’t like the pieces and won’t fund the clothing line.

However, he sees her work and agrees to fund her.

She also asks her dad to meet Amy. This will be the first woman she has her parents meet. Her dad isn’t comfortable getting involved in her dating life but he agrees to have dinner with her and Amy.

Bow Wow clashes with Funkmaster Flex.

Bow Wow brings his friends out to bowl. They are all drinking and having a good time. As he nails a strike and wins a $5,000 bet, he gets tagged in a negative social media post. The post turns out to be a rant from Funkmaster Flex, calling him a mumble rapper.

Bow Wow then rants in his green screen interview about Funk Flex.

He questions Flex’s credentials as a DJ and calls him corny.

“Besides, I don’t beef with the help. You’re an employee.” – Bow Wow

Later on he shoots a text to Snoop Dogg asking to meet up. Luckily for Bow Wow, he’s coming down to Atlanta.

The next day, he meets with Snoop to talk about Flex talking mess and going over his last album.

Snoop tells him to don’t worry about Funk Master Flex. He says, “They have to respect your whole hand. That’s what you learned from me.”

When he brings up retirement, Snoop says, “how you gonna retire before me?” Snoop tells him to worry about making a hit record before making an album.

“If the record’s dope, you’ll hear about it.” – Snoop

Brandon’s artist showcase is a disaster, Bow Wow uses Flex as motivation.

It’s the night of the Brandon’s showcase and he’s nervous about it. He’s worried that it can go wrong and set him back.

Bow Wow goes to the studio and meets Da Brat and their engineer. He tells them that the Funk Master Flex shade motivated him to get into the studio. “That’s all that I needed to get over the writer’s block.”

Meanwhile, Zonnie decides to pop up at Brandon’s showcase.

“I’m glad Zonnique showed up so I can show you what developing an artist looks like.” – Brandon

The showcase begins but he finds out that his DJ and sound man are having issues with the equipment. Despite the bad sound, Brandon starts the event. ”

Debra and the panel, who includes Big Tigger, call out the sound guys and the DJ. Then, she calls out Brandon in front of every one. Zonnique texts Reginae and tells her that the showcase is “wack AF.”

DJ Hurricane meets Amy.

On the other side of town, Ayana and Amy are out to dinner with DJ Hurricane. She’s afraid that he will think that Amy is the reason why she’s gay.

DJ Hurricane arrives and introduces himself to Amy. When Amy tells DJ Hurricane that she’s from Brooklyn, he says, “I used to have lots of problems with Brooklyn cats.”

He asks about their relationship and Ayana’s very honest. She says that Amy has a “split personality” when it comes to their relationship.

Ayana’s dad jumps in and says that they should break up. This shocks Ayana who feels it’s too early for her father to come to that conclusion.

Brandon gets fed up with Deb.

At the showcase, Brandon’s group Brave hits the stage. Brandon is really proud of this group and says they are the next big thing. “Move over. They are the next big thing.” Debra is also impressed.

“I got my eyes on you Brave.” – Debra

Honey Bee is on stage next and shouts out Debra and not Brandon. She also forgets her lyrics in the middle of the performance. This angers Brandon and he calls her out on the mic in front of everyone. He then takes her outside and pulls her to the side.

Zonnique, who figured Brandon would show out, wants to leave. In her green screen interview, Zonnique claims that the behavior Brandon exhibited at the showcase is exactly why she no longer wants to work with him.

Outside, Debra walks up on Brandon and Honey Bee. She tells Brandon to not go off on Honey Bee and she tells Honey Bee not to let the crowd know she messed up. Debra wants to works with her and she feels that she needs a good team. She tells Honey Bee that she wants to develop her, much to Brandon’s annoyance.

“It’s your turn now Honey Bee, It’s your turn now.” – Deb

Brandon gets angry because he feels like Deb took over his showcase, and now she’s taking one of his artists too.

After the show aired, Brandon got so angry, he called out the producers of the show, including Bow Wow, whose an executive producer.
