Power Recap: Ghost Loses a Family Member + Tommy Spirals out of Control

Tariq has a successful interview for Choate.

The episode opens up with Tariq interviewing for admission into Choate, the private school Raina suggested they attend to get away from the problems at home.

During this, he ignores a text message from Brains who is still inquiring where Tariq is and claims he has money for him from the lick that resulted in a woman being shot to death in her home.

When the interviewer brings up the fact that Tariq’s grades have slipped, Tariq points out that he started having trouble in school after Ghost was wrongfully imprisoned for a murder he didn’t commit. He assures the interviewer that Choate will place him in an environment where he can focus and once again be the student teachers love.

“Well, my dad was arrested for a crime he didn’t commit. I struggled. I admit that but I want to go back to being the student I was. A student that got good grades, a student whose teacher likes him. I just need a place that I can focus and work on my future and I feel like Choate is the place.” – Tariq

In the car, Ghost tells Tariq that he did an excellent job at the interview, but Tariq worries his grades will prevent him from getting an invitation. However, Ghost reveals the interviewer told him that he will recommend Tariq for admission.

“I’m proud of you, Son.” – Ghost

Ghost shows Tariq a screenshot of a major publication proclaiming his innocence. Both Ghost and Tariq are happy that it finally appears that the family as a whole can begin to move forward.

Tariq then asks if he and Ghost need to be concerned about Kanan trying to kill them again and to prevent them from snitching to the cops about Jukebox’s death. Tariq says Kanan may feel this way since Ghost snitched on him before but when Ghost denies snitching on Kanan and asks Tariq who told him that, he says Jukebox did although Dre was the one who gave him the information. However, Ghost assures him that Kanan won’t go to the cops because then he will be incriminating himself too.

“If he goes down, we go down. Got it.” – Tariq

Ghost then tells Tariq not to feel guilty about Jukebox’s death and Tariq says he knows it’s not his fault.

Angela’s sister is worried about her.

There is still blood on Angela’s furniture from her showdown with Mike. Her sister Paz is worried about her, and wants to stay with Angela since she was almost killed by Mike.

Paz is also upset with Angela for using herself as bait to catch Mike, but Angela tells her it was the only way.

Paz tells Angie she’s glad Mike is dead, but Angie tells her that’s not a nice thing to say, but Paz tells Angie she knows that she is glad Mike is dead too.

Tommy calls Tony to thank him for handling Mike. Tony tells Tommy that he must really be deep into the business if he’s needing to take out crooked federal agents.

Tommy doesn’t deny this and Tony reminds him that he used to get down back in his day too.

“Your Sicilian family would be proud. I’m proud.” – Tony

Tommy is surprised to learn he has Sicilian blood, and he tells Tony that may explain why he eats so much pizza.

Tony tells Tommy that he wants to see him, but Tommy will have to prove to the prison that he is indeed Tony’s son since Tommy has multiple felonies on his record. Tony tells Tommy to get some paperwork from Kate.

Dre meets with the primeras.

Dre meets with the primeras to collect money and they tell him they are thankful that they won’t be going to war with the Jimenez. They also express that they are willing to forgive Tommy’s erratic behavior if things go back to normal.

Kanan sends Dre a text telling him that he needs to meet with him immediately.

Dre tells the primeras that shipment is coming in later that night and everything should be good. Cristobal sticks around after the rest of the primeras leave, and Cristobal questions if their plan is still on. Dre tells him everything is still a go.

“Are you sure about Tommy?” – Cristobal

“Yeah, dog. Trust me. He’s gonna flip his sh*t. Look, he’ll piss everyone off, and y’all tired of Tommy’s bullsh*t. We’re gonna walk together. Look, no primeras, no soldiers, no war. No war is the only way we can get that Jimenez deal. Alright? We got this. Let’s get it.” – Dre

Angela meets with the new US Attorney for Eastern District and shoots her shot.

Angie meets with the new US Attorney for the Eastern District, Tameika, and tells her she’s glad she’s a woman.

She tells Angela that it needed to happen after all the chaos that went down with Mike and Ghost being wrongfully imprisoned. She tells Angie that her catch saved the department, but since Mike was murdered and didn’t stand trial, they lost the opportunity to make an example out of him.

So her first duty is to restore the public’s faith in the department.

She tells Angela her leadership is needed and Angie tells her she’s ready to lead.

They will all need to make an appearance at the upcoming Destroy Injustice Gala in which Ghost is being honored as the DOJ’s victim of the year. It’s just good PR and she tells Angie after the event, they will be done with Ghost as a department. Angie is relieved to hear this.

She also asks who will be the best replacement for Mike as Head of Criminal. She’s thinking about Saxe or Mak but Angie recommends herself but is promptly reminded that she caused quite a bit of the chaos in the department.

Ghost and Tate get interviewed by Olivia. After Tate dismisses himself to talk to a corner guy, he tells Olivia that it was tough to stay behind in the hood after he watched a childhood female friend leave the projects to attend Choate. However, he’s glad to be a living example of perseverance. Olivia gives him props on his soundbites, while he watches on as Tate and the corner guy dap it up and share a laugh.

Tasha has a plan.

Silver drops by to the penthouse to bring more boxes by of Ghost and Tasha’s things that were taken when cops ransacked the place with a search warrant. He tells Tasha more will be coming now that Ghost is an innocent man.

Tasha once again thanks him for everything and they share a kiss.

She tells Silver that she plans on leaving Ghost and he tells her that it’s been bothering him that Mike was killed shortly after the told her and Ghost that Mike was being held at the MCC.

Tasha assures him that Mike was a dirty prosecutor who was locked up with multiple people he sent there and anybody could have killed him. He pays attention closely as she places her gun and box of bullets back in the safe.

She tells Silver that things are going good at the weave shop and she and Keisha plan to open up a second store. When she divorces Ghost, she plans on reinvesting the alimony and turning the shops into a franchise. She wants to become an independent woman.

Tariq is at the gym shooting a basketball when Brains and Big Country pay him a visit.

They ask him why he ran during the lick that went left and he assures them that he wasn’t scared and he won’t tell anyone what he saw because then he would be incriminating himself. He tells them to ask Ray Ray about his past work. He then asks for his cut and they tell him they give him his money very soon.

Ghost and Stern clash, again.

Ghost catches up with Stern and Stern tells him that it’s a good look that the press is on Ghost’s side.

He questions how things are going between Ghost and Councilman Tate. Ghost tells Stern that he thinks they will get the votes they need at the city council meeting.

Stern tells Ghost he will be taking the reins at the presentation because he doesn’t trust him.

Ghost reminds Stern that he said he was a silent partner, and Stern says that was before Ghost went behind his back and brought Tate on board. He also tells Ghost that his “coalition” may be a little bit too “Afrocentric” and his presence will help dilute that.

Ghost then tells Stern that he wants a bigger role in the planning of the project.

When Stern asks Ghost if this request is about money, he reminds Ghost that their deal is in lieu of the money Ghost owes him.

Ghost tells Stern that he wants to be more than a face and he wants to be the man he was in the interview he had with Olivia hours ago. Stern tells him that he can do as much community organizing as he wants on his own time but he’s not budging on the specifics they made on their deal.

This does not sit well with Ghost.

Tommy is done with Kate.

Tommy is at Kate’s place, frantically looking for his birth certificate. After he is unsuccessful, he demands Kate tells him where it is or he will destroy her collector’s dolls. She gives in and hands him his birth certificate. When he reads it, he tells her that it’s not what he’s looking for.

He tells Kate that Tony told him that she has a paperwork that proves Tommy is his son and he needs it to go visit him in prison.

This upsets Kate and she tells Tommy he can’t go visit him.

“You don’t tell me what to do, you lying b*tch. You know what I’m here for. Give me that f*cking paper.” – Tommy

Tommy then picks up another one of her dolls and destroys it as Kate begins to scream and cry. She then calls his bluff and tells him he’s too much of a soft, momma’s boy to ever hurt her. He gets in her face and tells her he killed Holly and he will kill again if he doesn’t get the paper he needs.

She then points and tells him there’s an envelope.

He grabs the envelope and reads the paper. It is revealed that Tony came to the hospital the day he was born.

Kate tells him that Tony wanted to take him from her and raise him with his wife Connie since Connie can’t have kids. He even gave Tommy his last name.

“He wouldn’t leave his wife. I changed your name. I gave you my father’s name.” – Kate

“He gave me his f*cking name!” – Tommy

“He’s a criminal and a murder.” – Kate

“I’m a criminal and a murderer! You can’t blame that on Teresi.” – Tommy

Tommy then questions how things would have been if Tony was in his life from the beginning. But Kate tells him he’s fine the way he is. Tommy walks around and finds Kate’s coke stash and takes it.

“Stay the f*ck away from me, Ma. Forever.” – Tommy

Kate cries.

He gets a car and does some coke.

Big Country and Brains meet their demise.

Ray Ray pays Brains and Big Country a visit. He tells them that he heard about their latest lick at precinct. He says he knew it was them when he learned candy was left on the scene. He tells them they weren’t supposed to pull any licks without his approval.

Brain slyly tries to reach for his gun but Ray Ray tells him it’s not necessary and he just wanted to confirm it was them so he could help them cover it up.

Brain tells Ray Ray that it was supposed to be a big lick and it was “that jewelry n*gga’s b*tch.” He says the woman took them to the safe and Tariq messed everything up but Tariq won’t snitch.

Ray Ray tells them that Tariq possibly snitching to the cops ain’t the issue. He tells them that Ghost is Tariq’s dad and he’s friends with Slim and they are probably looking for them right now.

He tells them he can’t save them from Ghost and “Slim” and he kills both Brains and Big Country.

Meanwhile, Dre and Cristobal pour gasoline all over the warehouse and set it on fire with all the drugs inside.

Proctor and Angela meet for lunch, and he tries to persuade her to join his firm. When Angie questions if he even cares if his clients are innocent, Proctor says no, prompting Angie to turn down his invitation and end their meeting.

Cristobal makes his move.

Dre and Tommy meet up and Dre tells Tommy that the fire marshal said that the fire was electric and an accident.

He tells Tommy that one of the Serbs died in the fire but the good news and the reports never mentioned drugs because they were destroyed in the fire. Tommy tells Dre that isn’t good news.

They meet with the pimeras and he tells them they will have to wait on their drugs since the warehouse went down in flames. He tells them he will figure everything out and Cristobal gets in his face and reminds him that they already gave him money for the drugs.

“We got businesses to f*cking run. And the last time you figured it out, you almost for us into war with the f*cking Jimenez.” I’m thinking it’s time we part ways.” – Cristobal

Tommy reminds them one by one that he’s good for making things right and they all have history with him, and they all agree. However, he dismisses Cristobal and tells him to “f*ck off.” This hinders Dre’s plan for now.

Tommy tells Dre to keep the primeras in line while he comes up with a plan. He does some coke in Dre’s face and says he knows the Jimenez are responsible but he’s not sure how they knew about the shipment.

“I’m going to kill every last one of them. Starting with that David Blaine looking motherf*cker Critsotbal. Then the Jimenez, and the Serbs are gonna help.” – Tommy

Ghost tells Tate about his Stern problem.

Tate meets with Ghost at Truth. He vents to him about his earlier conversation with Stern.

“Well councilman, I was reading over my contract with Stern. And I couldn’t help but notice, way back here, in the fine print, that it says that Stern will receive an overwhelming majority of the compensation. Now I’m no mathematician, but correct me if I’m wrong, with my share at 51%, technically, it’s a black owned business. But once again, I feel this a*shole has brought my black a*s off an auction block.” – Ghost

“This redevelopment loan was earmarked explicitly for a black owned or minority business. What Stern’s doing is fraud. It could bust up this entire deal.” – Tate

Tate says he will handle this.

Ray Ray makes an appearance at Tariq and Raina’s school.

Ray Ray puts on his police uniform and heads to Tariq and Raina’s school. They come by Raina’s class since they can’t locate Tariq. When she asks if Tariq is in trouble, Ray Ray says no, but he’d like to speak to him. This concerns Raina.

Tariq is drinking lean and hanging out with Destiny, and he tells her he will be heading to Connecticut for school. She asks if they can meet up one more time before he leaves and he agrees. He invites her to his school dance and she declines but tells him she can meet him after and bring the lean. He agrees.

Tasha tells Keisha her plans of becoming legit.

Keisha and Tasha catch up and Tasha tells Keisha that they should open another shop. Keisha agrees but Keisha questions if Tasha is going to keep cleaning Tommy’s cash.

“I want to go clean. Like, for real, completely. From now on, any business that we do together, it’ll be legit. I promise.” – Tasha

Tasha then asks Keisha why she didn’t tell her about Tommy.

“He really hurt you, huh?” – Tasha

Keisha says it’s her fault she allowed Tommy to hurt her because she keeps repeating the same mistakes with men.

Tasha tells her she has been feeling the same way. Keisha tells her she hopes she’s not buying into Ghost’s lies and Tasha tells her that she has moved on from Ghost.

She plans on asking Ghost for a divorce after his project is up and running.

“F*ck our prenup. I’ma get mine. Trust. Ghost don’t know it yet, but he’s about to get me my way out.” – Tasha

Tate handles Stern.

In the meeting for the vote for Ghost and Stern’s project, Tate brings up the fact that according to the contract, Stern is making more money than Ghost.

“Something troubling caught my eye as I was reading through the paperwork submitted by Mr. St. Patrick and Mr. Stern. Your business agreement with Mr. St. Patrick states that he is 51% owner, yet the compensation reads as if he’s only a small shareholder in your company. I want to remind you, the reason the council took your bid to revitalize parcel 24703 is solely based on your partnership with Mr. St. Patrick and his minority status.” – Tate

Stern says he had no idea and his lawyers will correct the contract. The board agrees to vote once the contract is corrected.

Raina tells Tariq about Ray Ray’s visit to her class.

She tells him that Ray Ray came by talk to him and she asks if he’s in trouble. Tariq tells her that Ray Ray is a dirty cop that tried to kidnap him the night Ghost was arrested.

Raina asks him if that’s why he wants to go to Choate and he tells her leaving town will make everything go away.

She tells him he should tell Tasha but he tells her that’s exactly why Ray Ray wants to talk to him.

“That’s exactly why he wants to talk to me. To make sure I don’t tell Mom or Dad. Listen Raina, you can’t tell anyone. You can’t. It’ll just make things worse if you snitch. I mean, I’m serious. You cannot tell!” – Tariq

Raina promises she won’t tell anyone and they dap.

Tommy asks the Serbs for a favor.

Tommy meets with Jason who tells him he’s not starting a war with the Jimenez because he messed up. He tells Tommy the warehouse was old anyway and he was responsible for upkeep.

Tommy reminds Jason that if he loses his primeras, the Serbs all of his New York territory. He asks if the Serbs can give him a new supply on consignment and he can pay back the money tomorrow.

Jason says no and questions why they should even continue to work with Tommy.

Tommy says they should continue to work with him because he’s going to get that money back. Jason eventually gives in and after Tommy leaves, Jason says in his first language that they should have killed Tommy the same night they killed Petar.

Tasha turns down Tommy.

Tommy comes by to the penthouse while Tasha is on the phone with Choate. Apparently Tariq was accepted to the school and should be leaving in two weeks.

Tommy tells Tasha he doesn’t think Tariq should have to leave but Tasha tells him Tariq wants to go on his own.

He then asks Tasha to clean his money, again. But Tasha tells him she’s going legit and can’t help him anymore. He asks if her decision has to do with what he did to Keisha, but she says this is her own decision.

Tasha tells Tommy that he will find another way to handle his business and she can teach him how to clean his own money. He tells her he doesn’t need her to show him how to do it because he will handle this all on his own.

As he is leaving, Tasha asks him what happened to Mike. He confirmed he and Ghost put a hit on him.

Tommy catches Keisha walking to her place and begs her to get in the car. She reluctantly gets in the car and he apologizes for the way he treated her. He tells her he found his real biological dad and he’s currently in some real trouble and needs her help cleaning the money.

This upsets Keisha who realizes Tommy just wants to use her again. She gets out the car and tells her she’s not that girl.

Angela tells Paz that after everything, she may have to go to the private sector. Paz tells her she would love for her to make more money but she knows Angela’s true passion is putting criminals behind bars. She tells her not to settle.

Mak comes by, dressed up for the Destroy Injustice Gala. Paz makes it clear that she finds him attractive before leaving.

Mak tells Angie that if he Head of Criminal, he wants her working under him because she’s a pit bull. She tells him that she’s the one who should be promoted because she’s the whistle blower.

“You know, calling what you did whistle blowing is a stretch, even for you.” – Mak

In the background, Ghost’s interview with Olivia plays.

Maria, the fiance of the man Ghost murdered on the first episode of season one, recognizes his voice while cleaning tables as a waitress, and drops the dishes in horror.

Tommy confronts Ghost about Tony.

Raina, Tasha and Ghost watch the interview at the penthouse before Raina and Tariq head out for the school dance. Raina tells everyone she’s glad Tariq is the one who was chosen to attend Choate.

Tommy comes by and asks everyone why they are so dressed up.

Raina tells him about the dance and the gala. Tasha tells Ghost she’s not going to the gala and she will rest instead.

He asks to talk to Ghost privately.

Ghost calls him out for coming to the house high.

Tommy tells Ghost that he needs all the clean money from Kanan and Milan. He explains that the warehouse was burned down and he knows the Jimenez did it.

Ghost says he thought he cleaned up the Jimenez situation and he questions how Tommy messed that up so fast.

“I didn’t f*ck up sh*t!” – Tommy

Ghost then tells Tommy that Kate called him and told him he wants to go see Tony in prison just days after they had Mike killed. When Ghost tells Tommy that Tony is a loose end, Tommy gets angry and tells him that Tony is his family.

He tells Ghost he just doesn’t want him to have anything good and Ghost tells him that Tommy needs to blame himself for not having anything good because he’s back on coke.

Ghost brings up Holly, which frustrates Tommy and he tells Ghost killing Holly was a mistake.

When Ghost says it’s too late for Tony to sweep in and do “daddy sh*t,” Tommy headbutts him. He tells Ghost to square up and Ghost tells him the last time he head butted him, they were 14 years old and it left a scar.

“Good to see you’re still 14 Tommy.” – Ghost

“Just go write that check.” -Tommy

“F*ck you.” – Ghost

After Ghost hands Tommy the check, he tells Tommy not to come back to the house until he’s sober.

“Alright, but if you lay one hand on Teresi without asking for my permission, this time I will kill you.” – Tommy

Tariq is on the phone with Destiny, and she asks him if he was afraid after he saw what Brain did to that lady. When Tariq makes it clear he doesn’t feel like talking about it, she shames him for not wanting to open up to her.

He then tells her that it didn’t scare him.

She tells hm she will catch up with him after the dance at their spot. Ray Ray laughs and tells her that she did a good job. It is revealed that she is his little cousin. He takes her phone.

Tommy has a bad meeting with his primeras.

They ask him if it’s true that he is trying to go to war with the Jimenez, again. They all decide to cut ties with Tommy and he begins arguing with Dre.

Tommy tells Dre he gave him one job and he didn’t come through.

“Now hold the f*ck up. All I’ve been doing for the past few days is helping you get your sh*t together. Yo, Jason’s right man. You gotta stop blaming motherf*ckers for your f*ck ups. I’m done with this sh*t. I should walk too.” – Dre

Tommy tells Dre he’d love for him to walk because nothing would make him happier.

Dre tells him if he leaves, he’s not coming back, and Tommy tells him he’s dismissed.

Dre walks out with a smirk on his face.

Silver and Tasha have another steamy night together while Ghost is at the gala.

At the gala, Stern updates Ghost and tells him the contract was updated and the and they got the votes. Ghost apologizes for Tate and says he had no idea he would do what he did.

But Stern sees right through this and tells Ghost he needs to learn how to trust him.

He tells Ghost that Joshua Kantos walked away from testifying because of him. He warns Ghost that he may not always be so patient.

Angie walks into the event and Ghost walks up to her to speak.

Tameika gets on the podium and reveals that Angela is the new Head of Criminal. This is surprising to Mak and Saxe.

At the school dance, Raina tells Tariq that this will be the first birthday they spend apart. Before he can answer her, he gets a text from Ray Ray, who is posing as Destiny, to meet in a few minutes. He tells Raina he will be back but he won’t disclose where he’s going.

Tate isn’t what he seems.

Ghost has another conversation with Angie and thanks her for catching Mike. He tells her he knows she didn’t do it for him but he’s thankful anyway.

She brings up his interview with Olivia and tells him he did have a chance to go to Choate, but he passed it up to stay with Tommy.

“What would have happened if you did?” – Angela

“Don’t matter now, right?” – Ghost

He tells her that things worked out for the best since in the end, they both got what they wanted anyway. He says that wouldn’t have happened if “it wasn’t for each other.”

“I guess that’s true.” – Angela

After Ghost smiles, Angela says she has to go, and they shake hands.

“Good luck, Angela Valdes.” – Ghost

“You too.” – Angela

Tate then walks up and introduces the guy who was standing on the corner earlier in the episode. His name is Alphonse. Tate tells hm that he’s their new community liaison and they have to make sure he’s kept whole.

“What is this about, Rashad?” – Ghost

“I did you a huge favor by making sure you got more of Stern’s cut. Now it’s time for you to reciprocate. Make that happen.” – Tate

Dre meets with Cristobal in celebration of their plan working.

Dre tells Cristobal the only reason he was able to pull everything off is because Ghost and Tommy underestimated him.

“I just saw an opportunity and I took it. You know, Ghost, Kanan, Tommy, none of them n*ggas think I got what I got in me…That naive, young boy sh*t…man f*ck that sh*t. So I used it against em. There’s advantages to being underestimated.” – Dre

Dre then asks Cristobal how the other thing is looking and the episode then focuses on Kanan entering an apartment. Someone from behind tries to attack him and he busts the door on the other person waiting to attack him on the inside. He ends up killing both hit-men, and it is apparent Dre is the one who ordered the failed hit.

Raina gets caught up thanks to Tariq’s actions.

Tommy goes to meet Tony and tells him that he may need to meet the rest of the family because he’s in some serious trouble. Tony agrees.

Tariq walks out the party and calls for destiny. Ray Ray walks up on him and Tariq pushes him to the ground and runs away.

Ray Ray begins to chase him but loses him. Raina appears and confronts him, telling him she knows who he really is.

“Hey you were at my school the other day looking for Tariq.” – Tariq

“Yeah, I was just headed to your school to find your principal.” – Ray Ray

“I know who you are, Ray Ray. You need to leave my brother alone. My father’s gonna kill you.” – Raina

Ray Ray then pulls the gun out on her and shoots her in the chest, killing her. He runs off and Tariq (who saw everything) runs to Raina’s body and looks over her in shock.

What are your thoughts on the episode?

  1. I hate that Raina died when she truly was like one of the only innocent people on this show. Next week is going to be nuts and I’m here for it.

  2. Y’all. My heart dropped when he pulled that trigger. Poor Raina. And…. I hate to wish ill on a kid, but Tariq is just a character so – I can’t wait for karma to find him. And I sincerely hope Dre is skinned alive. I really need Tommy to be more insightful about his dealings with him. Smh

  3. Yes I think Dre, Tommy and Ghost gonna join forces too take down Dre and his team cuz they all have a reason for wanting dre gone. Tommy is also spinning out of control with getting high and those weird looks he was giving was just awkward to watch. Lol anyway dre better get dealt with or Im done with this show!
