Ralph Angel is told about marriage premarital counseling and Aunt Vi gets a major business proposal.
RA heads over to the diner and sits in front of Aunt Vi. She stares at him and says, “Your father giving you this farm is the best thing that has ever happened to you.”
She then tells him about marriage counseling at her church. He isn’t sold on getting it but doesn’t argue the point. When he leaves, someone comes in asking about her pies. His name is Jared Rawlings of Rawlings Supermarkets. He is interested in selling her pies exclusively in his stores. She also receives a contract in which she will receive an advance of $50,000.
RA is arriving at the farm, and checks out the field. As he stares out into the distance, he says ,”Thanks Pop.”
Lorna arrives to Charley’s condo with decorative pillows, and notices that her daughter is still thinking about the will.
She tells her that the Mill is a bigger opportunity than the land and offers to help her solidify it.
Charley and Darla grow their bond.
Nova is with her friend Tierra setting up for a community service event and introduces her to Robert. When he walks away, Tierra says, “How did you end up with a unicorn?”
Nova brushes this off, and says they aren’t dating. Tierra retorts, “You better scoop him up before I do.”
Charley is browsing over wedding gowns as she is waiting for Darla to finish trying on her gown. Later on, Darla walks in with her gown fitted, but says the dress is “way too expensive.”
Charley tells a story of how her mother didn’t like her dress, because it made her look pregnant, which she was.
“She didn’t want to believe it. She didn’t want her friends to think I was having a shotgun wedding.” – Charley
At the end of the story, Charley tells her the dress is beautiful and Darla begins to cry. Darla is crying because she hasn’t talked to her parents in over a year. She wants to let her mom know specifically how far she has come since overcoming her addiction.
Charley consoles her, and says that she is always surrounded by family.
As Robert and Nova are cleaning up the lot, Micah and KeKe stop by. Keke is enamored with her Nova’s work with the newspaper and says she considers Nova a role model.
Darla suggests to RA they take up Aunt Vi’s offer of premarital counseling.
RA is with Darla helping her move out of the trailer. He laughs as she proposes ways to redecorate their house, but assures her she has every right to want to make the changes.
“It’s your house too now.” – RA
Darla comes across the flyer about the pre-marital counseling from Aunt Vi’s church, and Darla tells RA it’ a good idea. He scoffs at her.
“What can someone who is single tell me about being married” – Ralph Angel
Aunt Vi and Lorna cross paths, and Charley deals with Sam Landry’s sugar cane society.
Aunt Vi stops by the mill to see Charley, but crosses paths with Lorna instead. She tells Lorna that she’s not supposed to be here, and Lorna replies, “You can’t keep me from my family.”
Before Aunt Vi leaves, she tells Lorna that she will not stir up things from the past with Nova and Ralph Angel, as she tried to take Ernest from their mother.
Charley shows up to the Sugar Cane Society’s meeting and is somewhat surprised to see Sam Landry leading the meeting. He shades her, by saying she showed up an hour late. Charley is surprised by this, because he gave the time to show up.
She retorts, “I can show you how to reply all to an email next time.”
Sam mentions that she missed out on the “boring business,” and brings up their sugar cane ball. Keke’s name is mentioned and by Charley, and the members at the meeting signal to Charlie to hush. This makes Charley uncomfortable to say the least.
Keke sets Micah straight about her virginity.
Meanwhile, Keke and Micah are at Davis’ place alone. He offers they take a shower, and she brushes off the advance. She tells him she is a virgin and is not having s*x until she is in love.
Micah apologizes and offers to take her home, however, Keke wants to spend time with him, without s*x.
Nova and Robert are still hanging out. Robert tells her about another appearance. However, she is starting to get a bit overwhelmed with the attention her article is getting.
RA comes face to face with Darla’s past, and feels some type of way about it.
Darla is walking out of a gas station and is approached by a random guy, who offers to pay her for s*x. Darla pauses in embarrassment and tells him “you have the wrong person.”
“I recognize that a** anywhere. Holla at me the next time you come around.” – Guy at gas station
Ralph Angel notices Darla shedding tears afterwards. He’s angered by what he just witnessed but decides to say nothing for now.
Aunt Vi is in her office. She first Googles the condition fibromyalgia. Then, as Aunt Vi tries to read her contract for the business offer, she begins to have blurry vision, and gets woozy when she stands up.
Lorna comes by Charley’s condo to talk about the business plans. She feels that Charley’s sugar cane mill would be more successful if she goes after white farmers. The black farmers she contracts with bring in a fraction of the white ones. However, Charley tells her about the Landry’s control of the county, and how racism is contributing to the business.
However, Lorna only finds this racism as an excuse.
“Reach across the color divide, because green is the only color you should be looking at.” – Lorna
She also tells Charley that Aunt Vi stopped by, which shocks her.
Micah and Nova grow their bonds with Keke and Robert respectively.
Keke is in Micah’s room, and he offers to help braid her hair. She tries to sit there and let him do it, but stops him after a while. They then hold hands, as they seem to share a bond.
Meanwhile, Nova is breaking down to Robert about Micah’s incident with the cops.
She expresses this being a reason why she doesn’t want any kids, and Robert feels the same way. He feels that his work “has a higher purpose, “and wasn’t put on the earth to raise kids, as his parents told him.
Suddenly, the two of them kiss and share an intimate moment in the bedroom.
RA is stewing over the glimpse of what he saw with Darla. Charley apologizes to Aunt Vi about Lorna.
Darla and RA spend time with Blue in his “fort” before his bedtime. As they spend time together, RA is replaying the incident at the gas station over. When Blue asks if Darla is going to really be there forever, he takes a long pause, and then says, “Yeah.”
Charley runs into Aunt Vi’s house and apologizes for not telling her that Lorna is here. Aunt Vi tells her keeping this secret isn’t good for her siblings.
Charley then vents about the meeting she had and her mom telling her to mill white farmer’s sugar cane.
Aunt Vi pauses, then tells her “you’re grown.”
She then changes the subject to all Charley about the offer to sell the pies in grocery stores.
As they are laying down, RA is still feeling some type of way about seeing Darla confronted by a former “client.” They end up arguing about each other’s past.
Darla tells RA that what she did is in the past is just that, and then gives him an ultimatum.
“If you can’t accept me for the person I am now, then I can’t marry you.” – Darla.
She then gets her pillow to sleep on the couch.
Charley reveals her plan for the black farmers, and Robert gives Nova a key.
Micah and Charley recap their days with one another, and Micah tells her about Keke. Charley brings up that she is applying for the Crystal Court. He tells Charley that she should keep applying, although she knows she won’t get it.
During the conversation, Charley notices that he is smitten with Keke.
“I’ve never met anyone like her. She’s taught me so much.” – Micah
At this point, Charley tells Micah that the mill will be hosting their own harvest festival, “For black people.”
The episode ends with Nova and Robert parting ways, for now. Before he leaves, he gives Nova a key to his place. Nova is confused by this because she is still fronting about her feelings about Robert.
