‘Survivor’s Remorse’ + ‘Being Mary Jane’ Cancelled

Deadline is reporting that “Survivors Remorse” is ending as this season concludes later this month. The LeBron James produced comedy is currently in its 4th season, airing on Starz.

Deadline writes:

It’s game over for Survivor’s Remorse. Starz is letting the clock run out on its basketball comedy after the current season, which wraps October 15 with back-to-back. The planned season ender, titled “Answers and Questions,” now will be the series finale.

The series follows the life of Cam Calloway (Jessie T. Usher), a hard-working young hoops star who is thrust into the limelight after signing a huge contract with a pro team in Atlanta. RonReaco Lee, Tichina Arnold, Erica Ash, Teyonah Parris, Robert Wu and Megan Tandy round out the cast of the show executive produced by Mike O’Malley, Tom Werner, NBA star LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Paul Wachter, Victor Levin, Hilton Smith and Ali LeRoi.

And with Tyler Perry inking a deal to bring new content to BET, the network has decided to pull the plug on “Being Mary Jane.”

The drama was not renewed for a fifth season, but fans will get a conclusion next year in the form of a two-hour TV movie.

E! News writes:

Being Mary Jane, Gabrielle Union’s BET drama centered on the titular TV news anchor, has been canceled by the cable network, E! News has confirmed. However, even though a fifth season is out of the cards, fans of the drama will get to say goodbye to the beloved character as BET has ordered a two-hour TV movie to serve as the official series finale. Union is expected to return as Mary Jane, but no other cast members or producers from the original series are currently attached.

Deadline first reported the news.

“Being Mary Jane has been a landmark series not only for BET, but for African American women around the world who saw themselves in Mary Jane, her family, friends and coworkers. From the captivating storytelling, to the richly complex characters, to the powerful issues tackled on the series, we remain immensely proud,” Connie Orlando, EVP and Head of Programming at BET Networks, said in a statement.

“We are grateful to the cast and creators of Being Mary Jane, who have worked tirelessly to bring this world to vivid life over the past 4 seasons. We also thank the many loyal viewers whose hearts and minds were captured every week, and kept Mary Jane trending worldwide. We look forward to closing out Mary Jane’s journey with a series finale that is sure to blow fans away!”

  1. When Being Mary Jane and Survivors Remorse first came out, we were just happy to have black shows again. But now there are more black shows to watch with way better writing. So people stopped watching. I’ll watch the BMJ movie though to see how it will all end.

  2. When BET announced Tyler Perry was leaving OWN to produce content for them, I wondered what that meant for Gabby’s show.

  3. Well I can see survivor’s remorse being cancelled especially ever since Mike Epps left. I’m shocked about Being Mary Jane I actually like this season.

  4. Let’s be real. No one was watching anyway. If your show can’t get a million viewers nowadays, it will get cancelled.

  5. After she sued them and won of course this would be their next move. Always knew this would be MJ’s last season so no surprise here
