Charley’s shaken by Davis’ news of having a daughter going public.

The episode opens with Nova walking up, staring at a photo of her and Charley on her nightstand. She gets a text from Remy, but Aunt Vi calls, asking for her to help bake pies ASAP. Nova needs to write but Aunt Vi needs the help. When she hangs up, she sees the text from Remy.

“We need to talk.” – Remy

News of Davis’ 13 year old daughter hit the blogs, and Charley reads one of the articles. Jacob calls her, but she sends the call to voicemail. Micah, getting ready for school, asks if she’s heading to work. He also tells her he’s glad Charley met his friends.

She wants to talk about Micah’s half-sister, but Micah isn’t ready to have that talk. So she tells him to have a good day at school and he leaves.

Blue’s having problems at school.

Darla dropped Blue off at school and he isn’t ready to leave her side. When Blue went to class, one of his teachers went to Darla, telling her about Blue pushing a kid off a swing. The teacher tried to call Ralph Angel but to no avail. She also tells Darla that she’s glad to see her back.

“Blue missed you.” – Blue’s Teacher

As Nova heads out to help Aunt Vi, Darla heads by the farm to talk to Ralph Angel. Darla wants to know why he didn’t tell her about Blue pushing the kid off the swing.

“Because I handled it.” – Ralph Angel

Darla wants to pick up Blue after school to talk about the incident anyways, and he agrees. Just as Darla leaves, Trinh texts Ralph Angel asking to see him later. This puts a smile on his face.

Blue gets picked up by Darla and he gets excited when he sees Darla’s place. He tells her she has a lovely house.

“It’s your house too.” – Darla

Nova asks Aunt Vi about her inspirations behind her business.

Aunt Vi and Nova are still baking the pies and Nova praises Aunt Vi about her booming business. Aunt Vi talked about how she was taught by her mom to be a wife and mother. The conversation gets interesting to Nova and she grabs her recorder to capture the conversation. She’s going to use it to help write her book.

Aunt Vi says she hopes the farm brings them closer together like it did her and Ernest. Nova asks her what inspired her to start her business. Aunt Vi says she always had it but never really knew she would do this.

Nova wants to talk about Aunt Vi’s ailment but Aunt Vi shuts that down. Although Nova feels this would inspire other women to overcome their obstacles.

Micah arrives at school and gets immediately heckled about his father’s infidelity and daughter. But Keke tells him not to worry about.

“They’ll forget about it by lunch.”- Keke

Darla tries to get Blue to talk about the outburst at school.

Blue gives Darla advice about decorating his bedroom, and he tells her that he wants to stay with her. But Darla says he can’t stay yet as his room isn’t ready. So Blue gives Darla his doll to keep her company.

Darla tries to talk to Blue about what happened at school but Blue ignores the question. Instead, he asks if they can play in the backyard and runs off.

Charley learns Jacob lied to her about the farmers.

Charley stops by Prosper’s farm and meets with the EPA official. However, he isn’t with the EPA. He’s actually a surveyor and he isn’t revealing to Charley why he’s surveying the land with his crew. Charley did manage to get a business card from him.

Micah is in a hall when his friend stops by. He invites Micah to hang out after school to get his mind off Davis’ drama. Micah tells him he’ll hit him up.

Violet suspects something’s up with Nova.

Aunt Vi and Nova finished their pies and are relaxing. She tells Nova that Hollywood’s not happy that she’s not involved with planning the wedding. She says she’s just been too busy to focus on it.

Nova then says despite that, he’s really happy with her and to be with her. However, Aunt Vi seems overwhelmed. Remy texts Nova during their conversation and Aunt Vi notices someone has her attention.

“It’s complicated.” – Nova

“I know your happy is out there. You just have to give yourself permission.” – Aunt Vi

Ralph Angel and Trinh are out riding bikes and he takes her to a park his mom took him to. Trinh’s happy to be there because her passion is art, despite knowing she’d take over her family’s business. Ralph Angel reveals his school’s track coach said he had talent to compete in the Olympics. However, he didn’t have the focus.

Charley meets with her private investigator and tells her about the surprise meeting with the surveyor. The PI tells Charley she’ll get to the bottom of it and hands her more information about the Landry’s.

She then apologizes to Charley about hearing about Davis’ drama.

“You need to realize that you can’t change what Davis did. You can only find peace with it.” – Charley’s PI

Darla finally learns why Blue acted out in school.

Blue and Darla are still hanging out. Darla reveals to Blue she’s taking an Accounting class. She uses this to get info as to why he pushed the kid at school.

“He said you left because you don’t love me anymore.” – Blue

Darla then gets on the ground, crawls to Blue, and gently rubs his face apologizing.

“I love you more than anything in the entire world. There is nothing that will stop me from loving you.” – Darla

Blue begins to cry, saying that he didn’t know when she was coming home. Darla then promises to never leave him again. She then hugs him while staring in the distance.

Meanwhile, Ralph Angel and Trinh are still hanging out. Ralph Angel tells her he appreciates how much she’s there for his family.

“Most people leave, and don’t come back. You did.” – Ralph Angel

She revealed she came back after a big oil spill that devastated her family and their business. Ralph Angel brings up his criminal past, fearful it would push her away. However, she reveals she isn’t worried about it.

They then share a kiss.

Racists confront Micah and his friends.

Micah is hanging out with his friends from school and he’s taking pictures. Keke calls as he was supposed to hang out with her after school. She texts him because she saw him in the hallway earlier shaken by the Davis situation. Micah texts her apologizing, saying something came up.

Suddenly, two white men in a pickup ride up to where Micah and his friends are hanging out. They demand to know why they are hanging out in their spot.

“Minding our own business. You might want to keep it moving.” – Micah

“Thats the problem with you people. You think you can make yourself comfortable anywhere. This here’s our country. Around here, white lives matter.” – Racist in truck

When he calls Michael’s female friend a black b****, Micah confronts him, ripping off their confederate flag from the truck. They speed off as the owner of the property shows up, kicking everyone off before he calls the cops. Micah’s friends are impressed with him.

A business proposal impresses Aunt Vi.

Aunt Vi is at dinner with Mr. Rollins, the manager of the grocery store she’s selling her pies in and his wife. Mr. Rollins tells Aunt Vi that she reminds him of his mom. Apparently, she shares a similar determined spirit. As a result, he wants to invest in her company.

“I see Vi’s Prized Pies in every freezer, with your face on the box.” – Mr. Rollins

Aunt Vi’s smitten with the offer and agrees to the offer with a hand shake.

At night, Charley heads over to her house when Nova meets her at the door. She wants to be there for Charley, but Charley isn’t open to the comfort. So she leaves Nova outside on the front porch. When she’s inside, Charley drops off her groceries and sees a magazine with Davis’ face on it.

Ralph Angel and Darla argue.

Darla stops by Ralph Angel’s place when his employee Benny has his friends over playing cards. She yells at Benny’s friendas they cause a ruckus over a spades game. Ralph Angel comes out from the back angry, wondering what’s going on.

Benny tells him shamefully he had his friends over to see him and he will clean up the mess they left behind. Ralph Angel tells him he has to leave, and leave now.

When Benny leaves, Darla sends Blue to his room and goes off on Ralph Angel about this.

“What the h*** were you thinking? You were letting that random guy stay here, and you were worried about me taking him?” – Darla

Ralph Angel explains he wanted to help Benny get back on his feet. Darla responds angrily.

“Why don’t you do right by your son? You’re working all the time. This house is a wreck.” – Darla

When Darla brings up Blue acting out in school, Ralph Angel brings up Darla’s lie about Blue’s paternity.

“And you lying ain’t got nothin’ to do with that, huh? You just in and out of his life. And all of a sudden, you know it all, huh?” – Ralph Angel

She Darla and Ralph Angel get into a shouting match, causing Blue to walk back into the kitchen.

Blue tells Ralph Angel not to talk to Darla “like that.” Ralph Angel tries to send Blue back to his room, but he doesn’t listen. He instead heads over to Darla, hugging her and tells Ralph Angel he wants to live with Darla.

“You happy now?” – Ralph Angel

“I want equal stake in my son’s life.” – Darla

Nova breaks things off with Remy.

In her backyard, Charley threw the magazines of Davis into a fire. Micah joins her outside to watch them burn.

Next, while crying in her bed, Nova finally responds to Remy.

“We can’t do this.” – Nova

She then goes to sleep with tears rolling down.

The episode ends with Ralph Angel cleaning up Benny’s mess, drinking a beer at the kitchen table. He stares off into the distance angrily.

  1. I don’t understand why Vi hates having her own fiancé helping her with her business but she lets a white man she doesn’t know like that own half of her business. Make it make sense writers.

    1. That’s the same thing I said! Didn’t even want Hollywood to buy her a refrigerated truck, but gonna let that white man end up stealing her business.

    2. That was honestly the most disappointing thing to me in this epode. And I think it’s gong to drive a wedge in her relationship with Hollywood. She never wants him to help her do anything. It’s going to sting for him to watch her let another man help her when she refuses his help all the time.

  2. Nova isn’t done with Remy yet. Not after Charley just hurt her feelings. She’ll end up sleeping with him before the season is over.

  3. I’m not buying that a Vietnamese family would push one of their own to date a black convicted felon. The writing has gotten horrible.

  4. Darla has some nerve trying to shame Ralph Angel for anything. She’s the reason Blue will never know his biological father.

  5. It’s starting to feel like Blue and Darla are going to be written off the show. I can see Darla dragging him to court over custody and RA just being like forget this and telling Blue he’s not his father.

  6. Are they getting ready to pair Micah with that lightskinned girl in the group? I am not here for it! Keke deserves better!

  7. I don’t like Ralph’s relationship with that Asian girl. He’s already treating her better than all the black women he’s been with on the show. The agenda is clear.

  8. Nobody cares about this storyline Micah has. All his friends are annoying and Keke is too good of a character to be getting phased out for these corny try hard kids. I also have a problem with the fact that Ralph Angel is treating this Asian girl way better than the darker women who have been interested in him. They could only get f-cked in a shed…hell he was even an a-s to Darla while they were engaged forcing her to skip out on her job to help him with the farm (and she got fired too). But he’s out here being a total well behaved and considerate Romeo to the Asian girl? Really Ava?

And I know Nova ain’t done with Remy yet. That would mean she’s a considerate human being and that she has never been. She always wants to be with men who will bring nothing but problems into her life. But when that doctor wanted to love her and have a healthy/stable relationship with her, she cut him off. Nova loves dysfunctional relationships. Remy became attractive to her only after he dated her sister. Typical Nova. But I always knew Remy was problematic too. He always judged Charley and made her feel terrible about herself. But in the end he’s showing he’s not as good as a person as he wants everyone to think he is.

I’m over Vi! She always has a wall up with Hollywood and he doesn’t deserve that. I’m glad he tells her about herself next week.

Darla needs to stop being so self righteous. Not too long ago she was addicted to drugs! Give Ralph time to heal from finding out his son really ain’t his son.
