The episode opens with Evelyn and Shaunie hanging out, drinking tea. They are drinking a special CBD-infused tea. CBD is an oil derived from weed.
While they drink their tea, the conversation turns to Jennifer. Evelyn brings up Jennifer having receipts but Shaunie still doesn’t want to deal with her.
“There’s no receipt I need to know that I am done with her.” – Shaunie
While they’re hanging out, Jackie calls Shaunie, inviting them both to her play the upcoming Saturday. Shaunie declines because she’s sending her son off to prom. Evelyn, on the other hand, accepts the invitation. Jackie’s play deals with domestic violence and that interests Evelyn.
This is a complete 180 from where Evelyn and Jackie were last season. The two are quite cordial and Evelyn feels that Jackie’s turned over a new leaf. Either that, or the CBD kicked in.
OG’s family mourns the sudden passing of her brother.
OG and her family are sitting for dinner. The dinner is a sad moment as they mourn the passing of her brother. OG’s brother passed at just 38 years of age.
In a green screen interview, OG said she was watching him while he had pneumonia and he didn’t wake up.
Her family’s thankful so many members of their family came to support along with his friends.
Everyone at dinner is mournful but are thankful to have one another. They end their dinner with a Nigerian prayer.
OG says losing their brother will be tough to handle.
Jackie’s at a final rehearsal for the play she’s staring in. She’s immersing into her play’s role at the rehearsal. But when Jackie practices her scene, she’s forgetting her lines. This forgetfulness angers the playwright.
She heads outside to vent to Chantel and her assistant. She begins to cry.
OG gets kicked out of her game.
It’s an hour before a football game for OG.
“I’m angry. I think that’s what you need to be to play.” – OG
She says she’s going to channel her anger into the game. But the league commissioner doesn’t want her to go out on the field and strike an opponent in the head.
As she worries about this, Cece and Jackie arrive at the game to support her. Jackie invites Cece to her play. Cece can’t make it because of prior obligations. She also doesn’t want to cross paths with Kristen right now.
The game starts and OG’s channeling her anger and mourning. During the game, OG gets into an altercation on the field, pushing her opponent in the back. As a result of the altercation, OG gets kicked out of the game.
“I’m going through too much right now. It’s too much to handle.” – OG
Reggie and Tami are out grocery shopping. While shopping, Tami recaps her fallout with Evelyn and sit-down with Jackie. Reggie tells Tami she went too far telling Evelyn she lied about her domestic violence experience. Tami says she done going back and forth with Evelyn.
“I am done with this.” – Tami
Ta’Kari is the source of Jackie’s recent acting struggles.
Jackie meets with her therapist for another session. She tells her therapist she’s overwhelmed by her acting role. Jackie’s looking to put things back in prospective.
Her therapist lets her know that she has things out of control. She gets to the bottom of it, which surrounds her feelings about Ta’Kari. Jackie says she wants to control Ta’Kari’s behavior but it just pushes her further away.
Jackie’s therapist tells her that she has to let go of trying to change Ta’Kari’s feelings about her. The sooner she accepts Ta’Kari and how she feels, the sooner she can feel a weight being lifted off her shoulders.
“She’s just copy-paste. You showed her that behavior. She can’t be nothing but the fruit of the tree.” – Jackie’s therapist
Jackie’s breakthrough is that Ta’kari is acting just like she does, and she just has to let go.
“You can’t fix her.” – Jackie’s therapist
Malaysia warns Kristen’s about Jennifer.
Later on, Jackie and Malaysia our out shopping for lingerie with Kristen. While shopping, Jackie asks Kristen about bringing Jennifer to Malaysia’s sit-down. Malaysia reminded Kristen that Jennifer hates Cece and calls her a liar.
She notes the Jennifer sat at home and plotted to take Evelyn and Shaunie down with her rumor with Tami. Kristen admits that being friends with Jennifer isn’t easy.
“Being her friend is a dangerous game.” – Malaysia
Kristen admits she wants to have a sit-down with Cece one on one.
Jackie has one more nervous outbreak before the play.
It’s three hours until showtime and Jackie’s in makeup. Jackie wishes Ta’Kari was at opening night but she’s okay. She’s rehearsing her lines with her friend Leon and she gets nauseous. Jackie’s forgetting her lines again and she’s getting really nervous.
Leon does his best to calm her down.
Meanwhile, Evelyn, Kristen and Jenifer arrive at the play. On the red carpet, the ladies take photos with Angel and greet Jackie’s husband Doug.
OG arrives with her boyfriend next. She’s using the play to escape from the reality of her brother passing away. OC walks in and Evelyn and Jennifer wave, but Kristen says nothing.
“[OG’s] not my cup of tea.” – Kristen
Zell Swag shows up and shades Jennifer.
Malaysia walks in with Zell Swag and she sits on the opposite side of the play. Evelyn walks up and Malaysia tells her that she’s not trying to be close to Jennifer. Zell jumps in their conversation dragging Jenn. He tells them that Jennifer’s outfit’s stuck in 2007, her shoes are terrible and her breath stinks.
“Y’all need to upgrade her. She’s still like back in 2007. Like, she can get new looks now.” – Zell
“You just don’t like the shoes?” – Evelyn
“The shoes, the old purses, the stinking breath.” – Zell
Malaysia agrees about Jennifer’s breath as Evelyn sits there in shock.
“He’s not lying. She’s a bit dragon breath.” – Malaysia
As everyone else is at the play, Shaunie’s getting Shareef ready for his prom. Shaunie has her family and his friends at his champagne party. Shaunie’s proud for her son and says he and his date look great.
Kristen and OG have a friendship breakthrough.
OG sits next to Kristen and Kristen notices something’s off. She tells Kristen her brother passed away and they head off to the bathroom to talk. Kristen and OG put whatever their beef is aside.
“All that bulls***… is out of the window now.” – Kristen
OG appreciates Kristen’s gesture to talk and is open to expanding a friendship as a result.
Just as the play begins, Tami and Reggie arrive. Evelyn side-eyes this and is quite happy they are sitting on opposite sides of the theater.
“Look who slithered in…” – Evelyn
The play begins and Jackie’s ready to leave it all on the line. Halfway into the first scene, Jackie remembered her lines.
“I am impressed. She stole the play.” – Tami
Backstage, Jackie and Chantel get emotional over Jackie’s success. Everyone is impressed with Jackie’s role in the play. After the play, Jackie receives a big bouquet of flowers from Shaunie and greets everyone else backstage.
