“The Best Man” is a bright moment in Taye Diggs’ acting career.
Fans of Taye Diggs can agree that “The Best Man” is probably one of the reasons he’s been able to continue to secure work in Hollywood.
The film is a favorite for many, and it’s rumored a third film will be made to add on to the commercial success of the first two installments.
However, the first film could have been the last one for Taye if he never managed to get over Nia Long’s improvising during a scene.
Nia Long upset Taye during filming.
In the particular scene, Taye Diggs’ character Harper got into a heated argument with Nia Long’s character Jordan.
Harper went off on Jordan for telling Morris Chestnut’s character Lance about Harper’s new book. In the book, Harper wrote in detail about sleeping with Lance’s wife to be at the time Mia, who was played by Monica Calhoun.
After some words were exchanged, Jordan ended up slapping Harper.
Turns out that slap was improvised by Nia Long.
And Taye did not appreciate that at all at first, until he was able to watch the scene before the film was released.
Here’s what Taye had to say about it on “Unsung Hollywood:”
I was pissed. I was like, ‘I’m never going to work with her again. How unprofessional.’
And then when I saw it on screen…you know, after that day we were cool.
The slap worked and definitely made the angry scene between the two actors more memorable.
