Tariq is ready to work with Tate.
Councilman Tate’s brother Kamaal has been promoted to Detective Investigator at the District Attorney’s office. So the two brothers celebrate by having drinks. Tariq interrupts them by showing up to the bar to talk to Rashad. Tariq needs him to get someone from Children’s Services to contact him about his sister Yasmine. Rashad doesn’t mind helping but he tells Tariq he needs information from Brayden about Congressman Sweeney. And this information needs to be enough to get Sweeney out of his seat in Congress.
Monet and Cane meet up with Tariq to update him about the new connect. Tariq is surprised to see Monet back with Cane. She explains the family needed product and this was what was best. So she needs Cane and Tariq to end their beef. Both men agree to stay out of each other’s way. After Monet pulls off, Cane asks Tariq if he set up Carrie as they planned. Tariq says there was no need to. The goal for both of them now is to stay out of jail.
Mecca continues to move in a way that has Cane’s attention.
Cane attends one of Mecca’s parties and meets his associate named Nuff. Nuff starts to tell Cane that Mecca isn’t interested in entertaining women because he’s been focused on one “b*tch.” Mecca overhears this and chokes out Nuff until he blacks out. He tells Cane that Nuff will wake up soon. And Cane is uncomfortable with how calm Mecca handled the situation.
Detective Whitman starts questioning Ezekiel about Carrie. Zeke says she’s his advisor and he didn’t know Jabari. He complains about being in the office for hours. And Whitman warns that it would be a shame for the media to find out he’s been there. So Zeke should cooperate so he can go back home.
Mecca learns about Tariq.
Cane wakes up at Mecca’s place. Mecca questions where Monet is selling the product now since she told Cane to take everything off the streets. Cane reveals the family has been pushing product at Stansfield. He hesitates to tell Mecca that Tariq is in charge of the campus operation, but Mecca threatens to end the business relationship. So Cane gives up Tariq’s name. And he says that he doesn’t feel as if he can trust Tariq. Mecca offers to keep an eye on Tariq for him.
Tariq’s meeting with children’s services doesn’t go well. He offers to get a job and apartment so Yasmine can move in with him. He wants her out of her current foster home. However, he’s not able to convince anyone that he can get a stable job while being in college.
Zeke turns on Carrie.
After some hours go by, Zeke denies being at Carrie’s place the night of Jabari’s death. What set him off is Whitman telling him that Jabari and Carrie started messing around again before his death. Zeke doesn’t want to admit that they had a s*xual relationship. And Whitman still isn’t willing to let him leave.
Tariq asks Bash to give him a legitimate paycheck so it can look like he has a job. So Bash will set up another company and make it seem like Tariq has legitimate employment. All Tariq has to do is find someone suitable enough to sign on as president of the new company. Bash also will need a $30,000 down payment.
Brayden made some moves.
Mecca watches on as Brayden and Tariq meet up with Cane. Cane leaves and Brayden shows Tariq the changes one of their runners made to the spot Lauren showed him. A 3D printer was used to recreate some of the bricks. Now runners can use their phones to scan for access to the hidden “vaults.” Tariq and Brayden will be the only ones with the master QR. In the vaults, the runners can pick up the product and turn in the cash. Tariq is impressed with what Brayden was able to set up. Plus, no one will ever know they are in charge of the operation.
Later on, Mecca tells Cane that he will have to get to Brayden to have control over Tariq. It’s up to him to figure out how to cause tension between them.
Whitman continues to apply pressure to Carrie.
Tate overhears as Whitman tells Carrie that Zeke discredited her alibi. He truly believes that Carrie and now Zeke had something to do with Jabari’s death. He can’t wait to put them both in handcuffs. Carrie tells him he’s wrong to pursue this for his personal vendetta against her.
Diana goes to prison to see her father Lorenzo. She questions if he knows Cane is back with the family. He says he made the call and Monet is just doing what he advised. Diana doesn’t feel like this was the right call. But Lorenzo tells her that family must always come first.
Monet meets with Mecca for a bite to eat. He rented out the restaurant. She tells him not to refer to her as Nae Nae anymore. She’s a new person. But Monet seems to only know him as Dante and not Mecca.
Tariq visits Yasmine.
On Lauren’s way to meet Tariq on campus, she runs into Diana. Diana wants Tariq to put her in touch with Maclean. Lauren isn’t happy to see Diana and calls Tariq out. So he asks her to come with him and find out what he’s been up to.
While Zeke is calling Monet for help, she’s too busy kissing Mecca in a helicopter to notice.
Tariq takes Lauren with him to visit Yas. When Lauren excuses herself to the bathroom, Tariq hands Yas a burner phone to hold on to. He tells her to answer it when he calls. And she needs to keep the phone a secret.
Lauren and Tariq sleep together. Not too long after, Tariq has to rush out of Lauren’s room after he finds out Zeke has been questioned by police. He contacts Maclean to help Zeke.
Things go really bad for Zeke.
Since Monet didn’t answer the phone, Zeke says he has a PBA card that should be able to hand him. It’s Ramirez’s card. Whitman happens to also be investigating Ramirez’s disappearance as well. As soon as Whitman questions Zeke about the last time he spoke to Ramirez, Monet makes it to the office and says the conversation is over. Maclean comes in to represent Zeke and update the press on Zeke’s talk with investigators.
Zeke tells Monet that he and Carrie are being looked at as possible suspects for Jabari’s death. And he gave Whitman Ramirez’s PBA card like she told him to do. Monet freaks out and tells him he shouldn’t have done that. She forgot to take the card back from him after Cane murdered Ramirez. Zeke begins to fall apart when he sees how stressed Monet is.
When Cane and Brayden meet up for business, Cane convinces Brayden to leave his bag with him so he can “flip it” and show him how to make some real money. Since Tariq is in dire need of $30,000, Brayden felt as if he had no choice.
Tariq has another intense run-in with Cane.
Cane punches Tariq in the face as soon as he answers his dorm room door. He tells Tariq about Zeke giving Whitman Ramirez’s PBA card and not knowing that Cane killed him. Cane worries that Jabari and Ramirez’s deaths will both be pinned on Zeke. Even though Tariq believes Maclean will save them all, Cane isn’t convinced. And he tells Tariq he isn’t safe.
Diana talks to Maclean and Saxe about Lorenzo. She wonders if there’s anything they can do to get him out of prison. Maclean doesn’t think much can be done at the moment. And Diana asks them not to contact Monet about their conversation. After she leaves, Saxe says he doesn’t want to work with a drug dealer. But Maclean says that drug dealers can be repeat clients.
Brayden gets the “flipped” money from Cane. And Cane tells him this is proof that Brayden should run with him and make money from the streets.
There is hope for Lorenzo.
After another hookup session, Saxe learns that Walt Griffith made some crooked moves. He happens to be the prosecutor who put Lorenzo behind bars. Saxe texts Maclean that they can get Lorenzo out of prison.
Brayden and Tariq meet at Bash’s. They have the $30,000 thanks to Brayden. And Brayden doesn’t reveal that he was short and Cane made the rest from the streets. When he asks Tariq if they can diversify into the streets, Tariq says no to working with Cane. Brayden then signs the forms as the new president of the company that will be staged to look like Tariq’s employer.
