Recently, R&B singer Frank Ocean made headlines for confirming that he is bisexual. He came forward with his sexuality a few days before his latest album Channel Orange dropped, in a letter that revealed his first love was a man. While many began to speculate who his former male lover was, some began to suggest that the man he was referring to was none other than Kanye West. Since that was nothing but gossip, Frank seemed to move on from the bisexual chatter and had had plenty success with his current album. Turns out that coming forward with his sexuality was one of the best things he could have done not only personally, but professionally as well since it’s helped him gain many new fans. But even though Frank is getting plenty support due to his great music and transparency, there will always be some people that could be a little…insensitive. And in Frank Ocean’s case, it appears that Lil Wayne might be that person.
In a remix to Future’s Turn On The Lights, it seems that Lil Wayne decided that he would make a reference to Frank Ocean’s sexuality as a punchline.
Similar to the once popular “No Homo” term coined by Dipset leader Cam’ron, when rapping about getting it on with a female, Lil Wayne uses Frank Ocean’s name as a replacement for “no homo.”
Here’s the report and the controversial lyrics in question:
The rap line goes, “Tell her I skate / I ain’t got no worries / No Frank Ocean, I’m straight.”
Oddly enough, Wayne recites this line after detailing a sexual romp with a female acquaintance, so there was no need for him to reiterate the fact that he is, indeed, straight. We must also note that Wayne mentions Miley Cyrus in his sexualized verse, as well. “When we get together, she be on that Miley Cyrus / So we eat each other up like some Somalians,” he raps. WTH?
Ocean has yet to comment and Weezy (nor Future, for that matter) haven’t addressed the controversial line, but the lyrics in question have sparked an online debate. Honestly, much of Wayne’s rap on this song needs to be questioned.
Do you think Lil Wayne took it too far?
This was so unnecessary. I swear Weezy and his whole Young Money crew are nothing but clowns. They will do and say just about anything for attention. How pathetic.
Totally uncalled for. And this is why so many more black men won’t ever come forward with their sexuality. I can’t stand Lil Wayne. He’s nothing but cancer to our black men and women.
Weezy’s only doing all of this because he’s gay himself. No straight grown man kisses another grown man in the mouth. He needs to pull “a frank ocean” and come out the damn closet already.
THIS.
I always thought it was suspect for a man to say “no homo.” If a man is comfortable in his sexuality, I don’t think he has to say “no homo” when he talks about women. And Lil Wayne has always seemed suspect to me.
Just counting down the minutes, days, and seconds until every singe one of the Young Money losers disappears forever into irrelevance. They can take Kim Kardashian and her dumb a– family with them too.
See this is what happens when people hype up people with lukewarm talent. They eventually get the balls to go after the people who really do have talent. Smh.
Some of yall just take things way too seriously. It was a punchline and hilarious to me. I doubt Frank will even care. He’s making paper too, he doesn’t have time to worry about things like this.
Lil Wayne is a jacka–.
I doubt that Frank would be phased by this. They (the Odd Future camp) joke about things a lot, and even Tyler the Creator took to twitter to make a few jokes when Frank went public with his sexuality. The way Frank handled this truth tells me that he’s comfortable in the skin he’s in, no matter what other people would have to say about it or him. That being said, I don’t think this in particular will become a big stink BUT Wayne’s inability to produce music of the same caliber or better of his past work speaks volumes to me. Yeah it was a punchline, but it was whack! Ain’t no way around it…..
Lil Wayne’s lyrics seem to be getting worse. I think it’s time for him to retire. Even his punchlines are terrible now. I mean is he even trying anymore?
