Robin Thicke talks about his wife Paula Patton and says she didn’t take him to her prom because he was white? Despite the controversy over his single “Blurred Lines,” Robin Thicke’s music career is truly taking off as the singer is said to be on his way to snagging his very first number one album. And his wife Paula Patton is doing her thing too as the actress is starring in new film ‘2 Guns’ alongside Denzel Washington. While things are going well with their careers and they are continuing to enjoy married life together, things haven’t always been easy for Robin and Paula when it comes to the things people have had to say about their relationship. In an interview he did with Howard Stern, Robin Thicke was asked about his relationship with Paula and if he ever caught backlash for dating a black woman. And Robin admitted that he and Paula both faced criticism over their interracial relationship and he even said she didn’t take him to her high school prom because she didn’t want people to know she was dating a white guy:

“Yeah sure, a little here and there. She [Paula] got a lot and I would take on whatever she was going through when she got home from those issues. The funny thing is, in high school she didn’t take me to prom, her prom, because she didn’t want everyone to know she was with a white guy because she was president of the Black Student Union. I was a secret. She didn’t want to show up with a white guy. Funny right? That was 20 years ago and I do believe that with music and a lot of the influences in movies and entertainment is normally the leader in changing some of these societal things. And I think that times are changing. The new generation doesn’t feel the same way as the last generation…It’s mostly the older people who have those thoughts.”

On if anybody in his family had an issue with him dating Paula, Robin says:

“Yeah, there was a little brush off from grandpa…A couple of inappropriate comments here and there, but my wife being the classy lady that she was, she always held it in, responded right. And now of course, my grandpa has my wife’s picture on his desk like ‘That’s my movie star granddaughter!”

  1. The thing he said about his grandfather proves that most racist people would change their viwes if they actually knew someone of the race they hated. We’re all human beings.

  2. He is telling the truth because I remember Paula saying she was ashamed of falling in love w/ a white guy. I’m glad that Robin and Paula withstood all adversity they seem like they really love and have fun with each other. Truth be told I will take a white, asian, mexican, black man as long as he treats me right lol

  3. Went through the same thing and then I realized happiness knows no race. Happy to see they are doing well and didn’t let trials stop them from being happy.

  4. I never saw the big deal with interracial relationships. If my hubby was white, I would have still married him. He was just too good to pass up. LOL.
