Rapper Nas is without a doubt one of the greatest to ever pic up a mic, and whenever he does decide to retire from Hip Hop, it’s pretty clear the emcee’s contributions to music won’t be forgotten. However, Nas is still very much in the game and still selling lots of albums, but it appears he’s just as passionate about people as he is his music. According to the rapper’s Twitter account and multiple reports, Nas has decided to raise money for a single father in DC who lost his apartment to a fire.  CBSDC reports:

Up until about two weeks ago, Stanley Young and his eight children lived in an apartment in the 500 block of Kennedy Street NW. But a fire in the store below their apartment has left them homeless. The Youngs have since been living in a nearby hotel, but their last day there is Aug. 13.

Rapper Nas, who is visiting the District, saw the Youngs’ story on TV and decided to help the family. The musician created an online donation campaign to raise money to help the family secure future living arrangements.

Nas pledged $5,000 of his own money to the cause and asked the public to donate what they could. He said if the account raised $20,000, he would throw in another $5,000.

Nas took to his Twitter account recently to thank everyone for their contributions:

So proud of our community right now. The campaign just tilted and we raised over $10k in a few hours! Keep going!!!

As of this morning, the campaign has reached over $30k. Nas says he would like to make it to the $50k mark.

We love to see Nas doing such a good deed for someone in need. To contribute to the cause, pledge whatever you can.
