With Miley Cyrus helping to make sure twerking becomes a household topic, it’s no surprise the singer has inspired other artists to get caught up in the craze. And caught up is exactly what seems to be happening to rapper and producer Juicy J considering the rapper received quite a bit of backlash for announcing he would be giving away a $50,000 scholarship to the best twerker. After the scholarship began to make its rounds in the media, Juicy quietly deleted the tweet, but it now appears the scholarship offer is still on the table since he’s been actively promoting it on his Twitter account for the last several hours.

Many of the scholarship’s critics believe it was very misogynistic of Juicy J to tell women they have to twerk for a college scholarship, and the tweet itself has now made the rapper a target of a possible boycott. Seeka tha Teacha, head of the Hip Hop Liberation Army, and her colleagues Sis Tricey and Abena Afreeka are calling for the boycott of the former member of Three Six Mafia and “Bandz a Make Her Dance” rapper.

In the weekly radio show “Militant Minded Radio,” Seeka tha Teacha says the rapper’s idea to offer women thousands of dollars to twerk in exchange for a college scholarship is very sexist thinking. She says:

“There’s no honor in getting a scholarship for shaking your behind….I think its degrading. Why would you want to get a scholarship for that when there’s a lot of intelligent women out here who use their brain. Why don’t you give them some money?

“I know Juicy J [is] probably sittin’ back laughing at all the women that’s gonna come and shake they a*s for this money. It’s all a game.”

The group also encourages other women to not support Juicy J’s upcoming album and also says men should join in on the movement:

“As women, for starters, I believe it is imperative for us to come out in strong opposition to the CD, to the message, and begin to actively get in the ears of our young sisteren.”

  1. I think they should also boycott Miley Cyrus too. She’s the one getting people hype over an old a-s dance like she just invented it.

    1. EXACTLY! People are acting like twerking is something new thanks to Miley. Twerking been around especially if you grew up in the south with DJ Jubilee.

  2. Wow. She made some excellent points. On a serious note, I feel like this whole twerking thing is getting out of hand. What is going on?!

  3. Great points. I’m sure Juicy just wanted to do the scholarship because there’s so much hype for Miley and her failed attempt to twerk.

      1. The only reason she’s getting all this attention is because she’s a white girl doing it. Black girls been booty shaking for years. No one cared until Miley’s non-talented a-s started acting like she created it. And then all these goofy rappers are cosigning her. Smh.

  4. UB, this reminds me can we get a post on Miley Cyrus? I have to vent. Like seriously, I have something to get off my chest.
