Jennifer Hudson has a new album on the way, and she’s already been doing a little press to talk more about the upcoming release.

J-Hud is unique when it comes to many of her peers, not only does she not drink alcohol but she also has no interest in singing about sex, clubbing and drinking.

In fact, when asked by the Huffington Post about who and what she feels is overrated currently in the music industry, while she didn’t give a name, her answer has been coined as shade by many on social media. She says:

“Girl, I can’t. Ooooh … Singing about the same old things in music is so overrated. Sex, drinkin’, the club. Okay, especially sex. Like, we [are] grownups, we ain’t got over that, like, really? Ain’t you too old for that kind of thing? Can you talk about something else? I get annoyed with those things. But I can’t answer the last question, ohhh though I want to.”

In related news, J-Hud recently dropped a new music video too. Check out “I Can’t Describe (The Way I Feel) featuring T.I. below:

  1. She’s so self righteous and annoying. Look people have been singing about sex forever! I mean for decades! It’s not new and it’s what adults feel they can relate to. If she doesn’t want to sing about sex that’s fine, but don’t put down others for doing it. Ugh!

  2. Enjoy that Oscar J-Hud because that’s all you will have. Keep taking slick about your more successful peers and see how things turn out for you. By the way, how did that last album do? Kiiii

  3. I guess this was supposed to be shade for Bey/Rih. The funny thing is Jen was all smiles and front and center at Mama Tina’s B Day party. How trilling and rude of her. Anyway, out of 14 songs Bey only had 4 songs that were about sex on her new album. It’s always the people that don’t know what they’re talking about that talk the most about Bey.

  4. How many times is Jennifer going to shade Bey and Rihanna in her interviews? Like really, just stop. It’s so unnecessary.

  5. So she says she is tired of hearing about sex in music but she’s trying her hardest to be sexy in that video. Hypocrite much?

  6. That song sucks. She can shade Bey, Rih, Keyshia Cole, Keri Hilson hell whoever she wants to but until she stops putting out this dry and boring a-s music, she will never have a successful music career. And that’s the truth.

  7. Sigh…so petty and unnecessary. I still like her but she turns me off when she does this in her interviews. Anyway, she kind of looks like a hypocrite for having her breasts out in her new video. But whatever.

  8. Welp, I’m grown and I love sex and I love songs about sex so sorry J-Hud! I won’t be buying your music because you’re boring and not my cup of tea. I’m sure someone will tho…

  9. LOL. J-Hud is always shading Bey but Bey never responds or pays it any mind. She still likes J-Hud because she knows that no matter what she will win in life. J-Hud can have her opinion but it won’t change anything. Bey is still on top and unbothered.

  10. I don’t like this song. I don’t like any of her music. And she screams too much when she sings. She does look pretty though.

  11. Never felt Jhud …couldn’t explain why She’s just annoying and too old and mother of the church acting for me. She might try singing about something people want to hear…. Because that song is not the business.

  12. The last time I checked Rihanna and Beyonce were grown and were making music for grown ups. So if they want to sing about sex, that’s their right to do so. And it must be working because both of them are way more successful than J-Hud is. I mean she still has those Weight Watchers commercials and flop movies paying the bills so I guess she isn’t too bad off. 😐

  13. I actually think Jen has a valid point. Just because someone states their opinion doesn’t necessarily mean they are hating or throwing shade. She is stating her opinion and being herself. I just don’t get what the problem. Geesh calm down everybody.

    1. I agree that its her opinion and she isn’t alone in how she feels. Im not directing this to any particular artist (though its mostly male artist that I see this from) but I cannot listen to the radio with my 15 yr old without having to switch stations over and over or turn it off. Singing about making love is great but imagine what kids are getting from it. Theres nothing wrong with keeping it classy and leaving something to the imagination.

    2. Exactly, but you can’t state your opinions nowadays, not even on this site because if you do people gotta always think you’re wrong for having a difference of opinion. Not all comments made like J-Hud’s are meant to be for Beyonce or Rihanna, but people always assume that.

  14. This girl has a nasty attitude. Now if Bey would have said something like this about her peers, it would have been all over the media and she would have caught a whole bunch of backlash. But because it’s JHud and no one really cares about her, the media doesn’t care. Smh.

  15. Remember Jenn said this a few years ago too:

“I won’t be taking my clothes off – no way at all. Beyonce and Rihanna can have that. I like to cover up more. I won’t do Playboy.”

The funny thing is I’ve noticed that some people get a pass for taking shots at others and throwing shade. Now let’s pretend these same comments and the comment I just pasted came out of Keyshia Cole’s mouth…do y’all not know everyone would be dragging Keyshia? But because it’s JHud we’re supposed to overlook the obvious shade she just threw Bey and Rihanna…two black women killing the game in such a way that Jenn could NEVER. All I know is Bey could never say these things…hell she can’t say a damn thing about anyone. The media would destroy her if she did and it’s not fair.

So yeah, I give Jenn the side eye here and I’m good on her. I relate better to Bey and Rih anyway because they make music I can actually relate to and enjoy.

    1. Yeah I remember that quote. I knew then that she really has some insecurities that she likes to put on Beyonce and Rihanna. If you have to put other artists down to lift yourself up, you won’t ever be on top.

    2. So true. I mean Beyonce’s shade from like over 15 years ago is making headline news now! But JHud can sit here and throw obvious shade, and no one is really reporting it. Maybe that’s a testament to Bey’s star power and JHud’s lack of star power. #shrugs

    3. The more successful you are, the more people will talk and criticize you. Besides that Oscar Jen has, she’s really not that successful to the point that the media is checking for her. Beyonce and Rihanna…now they are on top. Everything they do make headlines! They get criticized for everything! And I think that’s the difference. So I think that’s why no one is making an issue out of this. Jen isn’t that big of a deal. But I feel you. I do think it’s unfair and we all know if Keyshia would have said this it would have been all hell and she’d be called a hater, etc. But not Jennifer Hudson. Nope. LOL.

  16. Wait how is she going to put other artists down for singing about sex when she had a baby out of wedlock? I mean she had to have sex to have her kid right? She’s a walking contradiction. Sit down ma’am.

  17. That song sucks. And I agree with the other posters, some artists keep getting a pass for being shady while others get dragged for it. Interesting.

  18. I still like J Hud, but I think she needs to stop doing this in her interviews. It kind of makes her look like a hater. I mean Rihanna would cause so much controversy if she shaded people in her interviews. Beyonce too. But here’s Jenn doing it and no one so much as bats an eyelash. I wonder why that is…

  19. I don’t really care about this but her music is so boring and she oversings every song she does! So annoying!

  20. It’s her opinion but it’s a very childish one. She’s a grown woman…does she not have sex? I mean she has a kid and lives with her man so why pretend to be a saint/nun? That is why I have a hard time relating to her as an artist. She’s not real and comes off kind of bitter sometimes. But whatever.

  21. I usually lurk, but wanted to comment on this. I bought Beyonce’s latest album and it was the first album of hers I have ever purchased. To be honest I did not care for her before this album because I thought she was fake and I thought she tried too hard to come off like she was perfect and a “good girl.” But this album was very real to me. She sang about sex (now most of us are having sex no matter how hard we try to pretend we’re not). She sang about getting jealous sometimes in her marriage. She sang about wanting to be pleased by her man. She sang about drunken sex (it’s awesome, try it sometimes). She sang about loving her daughter. She even sang about loving your flaws, I mean I can go on and that’s because this album was so real. Had Bey not have dropped this album I would have never looked at her like a real woman I could relate to. It’s like she freed herself and I respect it. So to see J-Hud be so…fake and “holier than thou” is a turn off. I like artists that are like me. Flawed and real. But to each its own, right?

    Goodnight everyone.

  22. People have been singing about sex since the beginning of music. That will never change. In fact some of the greatest in music sang quite a bit about sex. And isn’t she working with R Kelly…the king of singing about sex for her new album? So she sounds a little naive here. But anyway, I respect her opinion and all but it just reminds me of why I have never purchased any of her albums. I cannot relate to her music nor does it move me to the point where I feel like I have to spend money on it.

But Beyonce is not a one dimensional type of singer. Her latest album is very diverse and I can go on YouTube now and find many videos of people who have been moved by her music. Even a cancer patient was dancing to “Get Me Bodied” before her surgery. Bey’s music has a way of moving people man. When I need to get my confidence in check, I put on Beyonce and I feel like every damn woman. So…to JHud all I can say is do you sweetheart, but let’s not pretend Beyonce’s music is only about one subject and isn’t moving people.

  23. So let me make sure I get this right. Because we’re adults and we have sex, we shouldn’t talk about it or sing about it in our music…even though it’s what we’re doing. Gee, that makes a lot of sense. *rolls eyes*

  24. YAWN…J-hud needs to focus more on her music and less on her opinion in interviews. I’m sure if she didn’t shade other successful black women no one would have given this interview a second look. No need to be hateful, just work harder ma’am.

  25. Jennifer have a seat and continue singing jingles for Jenny Craig because none of the artists you trying to shade is paying you no mind. Even Rihanna who is not vocally strong at all is at a more far higher level in the music industry than I think Jennifer Hudson will ever be. Far as Beyoncé she has proven she is at the top of the music industry.Even Lady Gaga with her crazy out does Jennifer far as overall talent. Jennifer Hudson is just on the level of Fantasia and nothing more.
