Just months after a middle school principal was under fire for making Jay Z part of the curriculum at a Mississippi school, it now appears another educator is in some serious trouble for trying to include a popular rapper in a school’s curriculum.
According to reports, a South Florida middle school teacher was suspended for assigning Lil Wayne lyrics as homework to her students.
The Charter Schools of Boynton Beach confirms that an 8th grade teacher assigned the lyrics to “Six Foot Seven Foot” as homework to students after they had such a hard time grasping the lessons taught regarding figurative language.
When parents learned Weezy’s lyrics were part of the lesson plans, they became outraged.
Parent Vanessa Guzman tells WPTV.com:
“This is crazy. They shouldn’t be giving this to kids in school.
“I’m uncomfortable reading any of this.
“They shouldn’t be teaching this stuff in school for language arts. I mean, who in their right mind would give kids something like this?”
Although the teacher was suspended, the school headmaster claims Lil Wayne was included in the lesson plans after the students failed to understand lessons involving William Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe.
Ok. I get why the teacher wanted to include Lil Wayne lyrics in the assignment. She figured kids would be more willing to learn something if they could use someone they are already interested in. BUT when it comes to explicit music, she needs to remember that not all parents are ok with their kid listening to explicit rap music. You can’t make that choice for the parent. So this was a fail.
If the teacher couldn’t find a better way to teach the kids figurative language, she has no business being a teacher.
Yeah I don’t think she should be discussing profanity laced rap lyrics without talking to parents first and getting their approval. The difference between the whole Jay Z thing was they were just teaching on how to become successful no matter how low on the bottom you started. This right here though, it was just too much.
What the hell is going on with our school systems? Are these teachers that terrible that they can’t find a more creative way to engaged their own students? Just sad.
And that should be ENGAGE. Please forgive my typo.
So this was a dumb decision.

LOL what in the hell?
Some people really shouldn’t be teachers. This person is one of them.
Did this foolishness really happen at a Charter School? Man are kids aren’t safe anywhere. lol
I firmly believe grown ups music and kids do not mix. I’m sure the teacher meant well, but kids shouldn’t be listening or even reading lyrics to grown ups music.
