Watch: Viola Davis, Donald Glover, Tracee Ellis Ross, ‘Atlanta’ and ‘Moonlight’ Win Golden Globes

“Black-ish” has proven to be a certified hit when it comes to TV comedies, and Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross both received nominations for their portrayal of a married couple finding humorous ways to be great parents to four kids with one on the way.

While Anthony Anderson came up short for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy (Donald Glover bested him), Tracee Ellis Ross won Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy (Issa Rae was also nominated in this category for “Insecure”).

“Black-ish” also went head to head against “Atlanta” for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy with “Atlanta” coming out on top.

When it comes to films, “Moonlight” won Best Motion Picture – Drama.

Viola Davis won Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for her highly acclaimed performance in “Fences” (Octavia Spencer was also nominated in this category for “Hidden Figures”).

  1. I saw bits and pieces last night but I’m so happy to see all these black actors getting recognition. I still need to see Moonlight though. I tried to find it near me but I couldn’t. I’m just going to have to rent it when it comes out on DVD. I’ve heard so many great things about it.

  2. Donald’s acceptance speech was hilarious. But honestly I have to say I love Black-ish and Atlanta a whole lot. I’m glad one of them pulled out the win and Tracee won because she’s killing it this season. I’m shocked Denzel didn’t win though. I just knew him and Viola would both win.

  3. There’s a lot of great scripted shows out now with black leads. And they are so well written too. It’s a great time for TV.
