Being Mary Jane Recap: Mary Jane Confesses to Lee + Kara Struggles with Legal Battle

Mary Jane has run out of patience for Lee.

Mary Jane sleeps with Lee in her new place. While being intimate, she yells for him to do it harder, and Lee can’t help but notice the change in her personality. He chalks it up to her new role at work, but the truth is MJ can’t stop thinking about Justin.

Meanwhile at work, it seems as if Justin has lost focus at work, and the head producer, Garrett, tells him he needs to sharpen up.

Kara has an upcoming legal battle.

Kara is still getting adjusted to the fact that she was fired. She needs to prepare for her arbritation hearing, and she tells Orlando that she wants her former company to pay out her contract.

If she loses, she could get blackballed.

MJ comes clean with Lee.

Mary Jane is getting agitated with Lee because she can’t stop thinking about Justin. When he playfully jumps on her new bed, she screams at him to get off.

She comes clean and tells him that she slipped up and slept with Justin at work.

“I slept with Justin.” – Mary Jane

She reveals to Lee that she has feelings for Justin and this of course angers him.

When he asks if she loves Justin, Mary Jane doesn’t deny it.

Lee then points out that she’s only interested in Justin because of his “swagger” and it’s not genuine. He also tells her that she doesn’t want him on her new bed because she’s saving it for Justin.

“I was going to give you everything you wanted. We were trying for a baby.” -Lee

“And I became a different person, and I owe that all to you.” – MJ

“Don’t give me that new Mary Jane bullsh*t.” – Lee

Before he leaves, he says it’s his fault for getting serious with her because he knew she was broken the night he met her. He tried to put the pieces back together to no avail. He plans to come back the next day to get the rest of his things. Before he leaves, he says he’s thankful they didn’t have a kid together because he thinks she would have been a terrible mother.

“What I see now is what you need is a real prick to try to break you down into even tinier bits. I hope Justin delivers.” – Lee

MJ calls her mother Helen. Helen tells her that her trip to Hattiesburg was wonderful and it’s the perfect place for her and Lee to get married.

Mary Jane then tells her that she and Lee broke up because she slept with Justin. She also says she wants to call Kara and tell her this but she can’t confide in her because Kara hates Justin.

When her mother tells her she can’t hear her and to repeat what she said, Mary Jane just tells her that she is no longer with Lee and she’s not ready to talk about what happened just yet.

Ronda still finds a way to make things difficult for Mary Jane.

The ratings are slipping now that Ronda is no longer on the show. They thought ratings would eventually pick back up, however, they have been bad for six months. And the producers are nervous because Ronda is getting her own talk show which will air in the afternoons starting in the Fall. Promotion has already started for Ronda’s new show and Vanity Fair has pegged her, “The Next Oprah.”

Head producer Garrett thinks it would be great for ratings if Ronda came back to set the record straight about her departure from GDU. This angers MJ because even though Ronda is gone, she still has to share the spotlight with her.

Her hotshot co-anchor Aaron plans to do the interview.

Justin pulls MJ to the side and tells her they need to go out and discuss what happened the other night.

Kara is causing problems for Orlando.

Kara is having a hard time getting along with the other WAGS and it’s causing her boyfriend to be shut out from team gatherings.

However, he doesn’t want Kara to worry and instead focus on her upcoming arbritation hearing. Despite this, Kara wants to make things right so Orlando doesn’t become an outcast on the team.

Justin turns down MJ.

MJ meets Justin at a lounge to talk.

Mary Jane tells Justin that she’s ready to take their relationship to the next level, but Justin tells her that they can’t sleep together again. He wants things to be professional between them.

He says them sleeping together was a “slip up.”

With ratings dropping, he tells her that he thinks it’s best for him to just produce her co-anchor Aaron’s stories instead.

She understands his decision is best for his own career.

When she tells him that she broke up with Lee, he tells her she shouldn’t have done that because he has a girlfriend and he’s not going to leave her for “a whim.”

MJ gets upset and leaves the lounge.

MJ gets even with Justin.

The next day at work, MJ pitches that they bring in some new producers and let up and coming anchor Emma interview Ronda instead of Aaron.

Justin says Aaron will never go for this, but Garrett reminds him that Aaron doesn’t make the decisions. Garrett thinks MJ’s ideas are great.

This angers Justin because he thinks Emma will get railroaded by Ronda and it will be a wrap for him and MJ.

“Ronda could be coming here to bury us on live TV. Aaron can counter it, Emma can’t.” – Justin

“Is it us you’re worried about getting trashed or you?” – MJ

MJ tells him she no longer “gives a sh*t” because she realizes Justin only cares about himself.

Lee tells Helen what happened.

Helen tells Paul, Sr. that she called Lee to find out what happened between him and MJ. He told her that MJ cheated on him.

Helen asks Paul, Sr. if their missteps in the past are to blame for MJ’s relationship issues over the years. But Paul, Sr. says MJ was too young to understand what was happening back then, and Helen disagrees because she feels MJ picked up on some things.

Helen thinks they should talk to her but Paul, Sr. disagrees and instead says they need to put the Hattiesburg house up for sale because MJ will never get married in that house.

The realization brings Helen to tears.

MJ, Garrett and Julian meet with the Brand Strategy team to get fresh ideas.

Garrett tells MJ that market research shows that she’s not connecting to viewers.

Aaliyah Luckett, their new junior associate, says that MJ struggles with likability because viewers don’t feel like they can watch reality shows like “Real Housewives” with her. She needs to seem more down to earth and open up more about her personal life.

They suggest she dates Randy Fulweather, the director of the movie Grade Point. Viewers can get a closer glimpse into her personal life, and Justin agrees and says it may may “humanize her.”

MJ agrees and says he’s already a step up from her last one.

Kara is still in the dark about Lee.

Kara and MJ have lunch together, and she tells MJ to make sure the next producer she works with is an ally because Justin can’t be trusted.

She is going to watch Orlando’s game with the other WAGS and asks MJ if Lee can come since he’s funny and will help break the ice. MJ tells Kara Lee is unavailable because he’s in Orlando.

Later, Kara watches the game with the other WAGS and makes ground with them when she gives them camera tips for their Instagram photos while taking a group picture for them. They tell her she’s their new “Official Selfie Taker.” Kara lies and says she’s honored.

She ends up genuinely connecting with one WAG, Lauryn Wellington, Daimond’s girlfriend. Lauryn invites Kara to go shopping with her later in the week. Kara accepts.

MJ goes on a date with Randy Fulweather. They discuss their upbringings, and find out they have a lot in common. Randy also tells her that Justin told her she was in a relationship. She tells him she’s newly single.

Ronda doesn’t make it easy for Mary Jane.

Kara comes to the studio to for her arbitration hearing. She first shows off her new digs to MJ and Ronda walks in. She tells MJ that she knows that the ratings are tanking and the producers are desperate.

She then taunts MJ about how MJ will need to fix her image and date a high profile bachelor to save ratings.

“You know, I’m going to be just fine, Ronda.” – MJ

“Yeah, Brand Strategy, they do know their stuff. But Heaven forbid you just do your damn job.” – Ronda

This gets under MJ’s skin, although Kara tries to convince her not to fall for Ronda’s antics.

During Ronda’s interview, she successfully promotes her new show and promises not to shy away from the big stories. She says she will no longer allow producers to vet her research and she will be doing it on her own.

Viewers are very receptive to Ronda’s interview on social media, to the annoyance of Mary Jane.

Aaliyah asks MJ how her date with Randy went, and she makes sure Justin hears that it went great and they are having another date at her house. She plans to cook dinner.

Kara is losing faith.

Kara’s abrogation wasn’t a slam dunk. They didn’t offer to settle and the GDU lawyers twisted up everything she said about being a single mother. She claims the GDU lawyers tried to make it seem like she didn’t need the money, and pretty much used her new outfit and the fact that she was sitting in a skybox to watch the recent baseball game as proof.

She breaks down in tears but Orlando urges her to keep fighting. However, Kara thinks she may need to throw in the towel and just focus on finding a new job.

Justin pleads his case.

As MJ gets dinner prepared for her date with Randy, Justin knocks and asks that they talk. She lets him in.

He tells her that he lied about having a girlfriend because they actually broke up.

She tells him they’re even and he needs to go home.

“I can’t stand the thought of you with someone else.” – Justin

He tells her he can’t be without her but MJ says they just don’t mesh. However, they end up kissing and sleep together.

After they finish, MJ says a relationship will never work between them because they work together and Kara hates him. But Justin tells her they don’t have to have anything in common to work.

The doorbell rings and she decides to have another round with Justin instead of going through with her date with Randy.

    1. I agree. I keep trying to like her but it’s so hard. She makes the dumbest decisions and has no growth.

  1. I swear MJ does not want to be happy. Now I wasn’t sold on Lee either but she has to be naive to not see that Justin is not going to work out. She’s too grown to be so naive about men the way she is.
