‘Growing Up Hip Hop’ Recap: Angela Shades ‘Love & Hip Hop,’ Kendu’s Daughter Checks Her

Romeo catches up with Angela.

The show opens up with Romeo in his home in LA. He talks about the things he’s done since the end of last season. He’s proud about his role on “Empire.” But it strained the relationship with his father, Master P.

While home, he gets a text from Kendrick. He lets Kendrick know he has a date at his home. It turns out, Angela Simmons is in town and she’s coming over.

Angela arrives and discusses her life as a new mother. She feels like she has no time for anything.

When Romeo asks about her relationship, she says she has learned so much about herself. Romeo just wants to make sure she’s happy. He’s heard the rumors but he decides not to bring them up.

He tells her about the fallout with Master P.

Romeo explains that deciding to ditch his own event to film for “Empire” really didn’t sit well with his father.

Angela says Empire was a “good look” for Romeo.

“It was dope.” – Angela

While they are talking, Kristina texts him and invites him to her birthday party. Angela says he needs to see his father and talk to him.

Kristinia and Vanessa meet up to talk about Kristinia’s party.

Next, Kristinia heads over to her Vanessa’s design shop to take a look at new designs and to invite her to her birthday party. Kristinia wants Angela to attend and Vanessa says she will call her.

Vanessa says its been difficult for her to reconnect to Angela since she’s become a mom.

Kristinia is also concerned that Vanessa hasn’t talked to Angela about her clothing line. So, she says she will call Angela and invite her instead.

Once Kristinia leaves, Vanessa calls Angela but has to leave a message. She isn’t sure how Angela will take the news that Vanessa is starting a clothing line of her own.

Egypt takes her mom and boyfriend to the dance studio, her mom meets up with the rest of Salt-N-Peppa to rehearse for their upcoming tour.

Briana is not here for Angela.

Kristinia is at the nail spa with her friend Briana. Kristinia asks if she’s dating Iman. Briana says, “Iman is dead to me.”

Briana then explains that she blocked him on all her social media accounts and her phones so he can’t contact her anymore. Then, Kristinia invites her to her birthday party and tells her that Angela will be there. Briana isn’t thrilled but she promises Kristinia there won’t be any issues.

Briana then explains the backstory about why she doesn’t like Angela.

In a green screen interview, she claims a friend invited her to hang out with Angela in the past.

When the limo arrived, Angela got in, looked at Briana and told her friends that there wasn’t enough room.

“That b*tch thinks she’s too good to know me, that’s all.” – Briana

As a result, Briana feels like Angela is just too full of herself. However, she thinks she could get along with Vanessa, since she has heard they have very different personalities.

Kristinia really doesn’t Briana to ruin her birthday with her beef with Angela.

Master P and Romeo hash things out.

Later on, Romeo heads over to his dad’s house to talk. When he walks into the kitchen, Master P says, “So you just gonna walk in here like everything is cool?”

Master P explains how he felt Romeo let him down by not attending the event he planned to film “Empire.” Romeo says that was the best thing he could do for his career.

However, P wants Romeo to understand his word is more important.

“Who’s gonna be there when ‘Empire’ is over?”Romeo tells P the he had to make the same kind of decisions in his career. P then goes off on Romeo saying, “I can’t make no mistakes! If I make mistakes, who gonna clean it up?”

Romeo scoffs as this as P walks away. Master P returns, telling him he’s going with him to New Orleans.

“Maybe you forgot we came from.” – Master P

Romeo insists he didn’t forget about their humble beginnings.

Overall, P is mad that Romeo is picking acting over music. But, he wants Romeo involved in his No Limit reunion.

Briana confronts Angela at Kristinia’s birthday party.

Later that night, it’s the night of Kristinia party at Hollywood Hookah and the cast arrives in one by one. Things start off smoothly for everyone.

Romeo and Boogie link up and Romeo apologizes for ditching the Unity event they planned together. Romeo explained that the Empire role came up and he had to make a tough decision. Boogie accepts his apology.

Next, Vanessa is introduced to Briana by Kristinia. Kristinia is proud that Briana is on her best behavior. But it’s pretty clear that Vanessa and Briana are getting along just fine. They all line up to take shots and Boogie is pointed out for not taking a celebratory shot with the rest of the cast.

He tells the group that he no longer drinks. The group is confused by this, but they don’t press the issue as he drinks his water.

Angela is late to the party. In a green screen interview, Angela mentions she misses her sister Vanessa and can’t wait to hear what news she has to share. However, Angela isn’t staying long. She wants to get back to her teething baby. Vanessa feels slighted and feels it’s very important to tell her about the clothing line.

She tells Angela she wishes she would stay longer but Angela has her mind made up.

As Angela begins to make her exit, Briana decides to go confront her. Brianna mentions that she’s been drinking gin and doesn’t know how this will go.

When she gets to Angela, they greet each other but things quickly go left.

Angela: Hello.
Briana: What up?
Angela: Nice to meet you!
Briana: We already met.
Angela: When? What do you mean?
Briana: It was definitely many moons ago.
Angela: How old were we?
Briana: B****, I don’t [know] how old you are now!

In her green screen interview, Briana expresses she felt very disrespected by Angela asking that question.

“What kind of question is that? B****, I don’t know how old you are now! Do you think I just sit around googling every motherf***er I encounter to figure out how old they are?” – Briana

Next, we see Angela getting in her car talking to the producers, angry about how Briana came at her during their conversation.

“This is not ‘Love and Hip Hop.’ I’m not gonna have no one disrespect me. She cannot talk to me like that. I’m not fighting anybody. I don’t get down like that. I shook her hand and she’s gonna be nasty to me?

I’m not dealin’ with no ratchet s***. Y’all are never putting me in a scene with her!” – Angela

Producers apparently granted Angela her wish because their conversation was not shown, only audio of it was played.

Back inside, Briana explains her side of what happened. She says she had no intentions of hitting Angela but she did want to confront her.

She then explains to Kristinia, Boogie and Egypt what happened in the limo years ago.

Vanessa has no idea what went down and Krisitinia decides to keep it that way for the sake of her party.

Deja isn’t feeling the vibes put off by Briana and interestingly enough, Vanessa defends Briana and tells her she’s just “misunderstood.”

In a green screen interview, Briana gives Angela a warning.

“If you ever come at me like that again, you’re gonna have a real problem.” – Briana

Master P shows Romeo around their old neighborhood, and meets up with their fiery cousin.

Romeo lands with Master P in New Orleans. P takes him on a tour to their old home, the projects. Master P says his time in the projects make him remain humble. He feels that if Romeo doesn’t focus on the music, they could lose it all.

He also feels he has too many yes people around him and Romeo needs to get rid of them. Romeo understands that he and Master P won’t see eye to eye and agree on every decision he will make.

However, Master P is happy Romeo decided to come to New Orleans and perform.

“He is committed. He’s committed to the family.” – Master P

When they are in Master P’s old high school, Romeo is introduced to a cousin, Lil One. P mentions that his father hung with P back in the day. He lost his life in the streets. P then says you gotta put the right people around you.

“People that love and care about you because when you’re successful, you know, people want what you have. People will try to take you down. They’ll try to sue you.

People want a piece of you when you’re on top” – Master P

Romeo says Lil One is his crazy cousin and said P didn’t even allow him around his kids. However, he respects Lil One.

“He’s crazy but he got my back.” – Romeo

Vanessa gets advice from her uncle, Russell Simmons.

Back in LA, Vanessa calls Angela but can’t get in touch with her. So she sees her uncle Russell Simmons. He tells Vanessa that she has to be focused on the clothing line to be successful.

When she asks about reconnecting with Angela, he reiterates she needs to focus on her business.

Romeo confronts a friend talking behind his back, and a fight ensues.

Later on in New Orleans, Romeo is having lunch with his friends, including Kendrick and his buddies from California. Lil One is there too in the cut. Romeo and his fiends toast to everything. But as they are eating, he gets a notification on Instagram on a recent post. He’s getting comments questioning Kendrick’s loyalty, saying not to trust him.

He then pulls Kendrick off to the side. Lil One see’s whats going on and joins Romeo on the conversation.

Kendrick admits to posting some questionable items to social media about Romeo. He then pulls in Black, another friend, to confront him too. When this happens, Lil One’s short fuse is going out.

Meanwhile, Kendrick is now denying that he said anything negative. Romeo feels betrayed saying, “…you already know what I do for my [bleep] people.”

Romeo says he saw the message of Kendrick talking mess about him and his family. At this point, Lil One is running real hot, struggling to contain his anger, asking Black to play the recording he claims to have of Kendrick talking recklessly about Romeo.

Suddenly, Lil One punches Kendrick in the face, who is startled by this. Then Kendrick begins slugging Lil One back, which is followed by Black and another friend jumping on Kendrick. A full out jumping ensues in the restaurant, while Romeo tries to yell from everyone to chill out.
