The next episode of “Fix My Life” will feature Monifah and her daughter Akemi.
Monifah gave birth to Akemi at 19 years old.
She revealed to Iyanla Vanzant that she was raped at 17 years old. Two years later she got pregnant with Akemi.
Unsure of what to do, Monifah didn’t feel she had a connection to an unborn Akemi. So she decided to go to an abortion clinic to terminate the pregnancy.
But she changed her mind while in a bathroom inside of the clinic. Monifah ended up giving Akemi to her mother to raise so she could focus on her music career.
This has been a major issue for Akemi. It’s one of the reasons that Akemi feels disconnected from Monifah.
Akemi also ended up getting pregnant at 16 years old. Monifah convinced her to terminate the pregnancy. Iyanla took issue with the fact that neither Monifah or anyone else talked to Akemi about being pregnant so young.
However, Iyanla was able to get both women to dig deep and bare all with each other.
