Charmaine starts her own shop.
After being fired from 9Mag, Charmaine decided to start her own shop called 2nd City Ink. Her partner is a woman named Jess who happens to be a tattoo artist. Charmaine believes Jess is the best tattoo artist she’s ever known.
9Mag moves forward.
As for Ryan, he’s trying to balance being a dad and business owner. His son Mason is now 12 years old and things are going well at the new 9Mag. In a green screen interview, Don says that he feels a little guilty about how things ended with the people who wee fired. But they aren’t missed.
Don’s personal life is going well. He’s in a great place with Ashley.
While in the shop, Ryan tells Don that he’s been getting booked like crazy. And the new staff has been traveling around the country going to different conventions.
Phor was arrested.
When Phor enters the shop, he says that he just shot a music video. He’s no longer dating Sophia Body and he’s enjoying the single life. However, he was arrested recently for “indecent exposure.” He claims he was getting “orally pleasured” in the car by a woman. Everything worked out and the charges have been dropped. In a green screen interview, Phor refuses to identify who the woman was.
Don asks Phor if he’s ever going to get married and Phor says that he’s not forcing anything. If he’s meant to be in a relationship, it will happen.
Charmaine has doubters.
The men discuss Charmaine’s new shop. It’s hilarious to them that she did this and they aren’t taking it seriously. Ryan jokes that 2nd City Ink only has a little over 100 followers on Instagram. And he doesn’t approve of people who don’t tattoo owning tattoo shops. He respects Jess as a tattoo artist, but he’s not sure she knows how to run a shop either.
Charmaine is ready to gain traction.
As for Charmaine, she says she’s going to be a better boss than Ryan because she knows how to treat people. She brings in cupcakes for her new team. They have a photoshoot and feature coming up with Rolling Out Magazine. She’s happy that six weeks in, she was able to make this happen. All she needs is for the team to go hard on social media to grow their following. She’s embarrassed that they only have a little over 100 followers. So she has Plug, one of her artists, film a video of her giving a tour of the shop.
Jess comes in and gives Charmaine a hug. In a green screen interview, Jess says her job is to manage the artists. She became friends with Charmaine while she was working at 9Mag. Jess knows what Charmaine went through. She is from London and her ex taught her a lot about tattooing. Now she’s ready to flourish on her own in America.
Rachel and Ryan aren’t in the best place.
Ryan’s relationship with Rachel has been tense lately. They are still trying to co-parent even though they aren’t together. Rachel has a nail shop and nail polish line named Pear Nova. Her spot is upstairs from Ryan in the same office building. After Ryan takes Mason upstairs to finish his homework because Ryan is too busy to help him at the moment, Rachel isn’t thrilled about this. She feels like Ryan doesn’t respect the fact that she’s a business owner too. Rachel would have appreciated if Ryan would have called her first before coming up. After Ryan asks if she can handle dealing with Mason for now, Rachel says she can because she’s been balancing being a business owner and mother 24/7. Ryan can sense the tension.
Ashley gives Don some news.
Don and Ashley have moved into a new house. They still planning on renewing their vows in Africa. They have a date night and they are thankful for it. While at dinner, Ashley tells Don she didn’t have a good doctor’s appointment. A lump on her left breast has gotten bigger and she’ll need surgery to remove it. She breaks down in tears. Don tells her it’s okay to be scared and he’s going to be there for her.
2nd City Ink is ready to dominate.
Rolling Out Magazine comes to 2nd City Ink to do the photoshoot and interview. When Charmaine is asked what made her want to start her own shop after her experience at 9Mag, Charmaine felt this is what she had to do after she was disrespected so much at the shop. Jess chimes in and says there’s no beef with Ryan and there’s plenty of room for both shops. As for Charmaine, she wants to prove to her former friends that she can be successful at this.
Don goes with Ashley to the hospital. She’s going to get the lump removed. Both of them are really nervous. They didn’t even tell the kids where they were going.
Charmaine speaks her mind.
Ryan, Don, and Phor stroll into the Rolling Out party. They had no idea that the publication planned it in honor of 2nd City Ink. Of course, this makes them feel some type of way since Ryan has had a history with Rolling Out. It’s awkward for Don to see Charmaine given how they left off. He’s also dealing with the stress of Ashley’s medical situation.
Charmaine decides to confront Don, Ryan, and Phor at the party. She tells them that they never supported her even though she looked at them as brothers. In a green screen interview, Ryan says he wasn’t about to let 9Mag run into the ground to “play friends.” As for Don, he’s angry and decides to walk out of the party as Charmaine gives her speech on stage.
Ryan has been sleeping at the shop.
After the party, Ryan calls Rachel to see if the boys are still up. She tells him they went to sleep 20 minutes ago. So she will have them call him in the morning before they go to school. In a green screen interview, Ryan says he hates not living with them. Since Rachel put him out of the house, he’s been living at the shop. He’s been sleeping on an air mattress. He thought he didn’t need to find a new place because Rachel would eventually let him come back home. So he’s been sleeping at the shop for the last few months.
