Issa and Lawrence spend quality time together.

The episode begins with Issa and Lawrence growing their relationship in his apartment. One night, Nathan texts to ask for help moving into his new place. In a moment of transparency, Issa lets Lawrence know about Nathan and his request. Next, Issa asks about Condola. Lawrence says they’re done.

Lawrence still has to nail his interview in San Francisco before he contemplates moving.

Molly’s encouraged to reach & Nathan’s moving.

Meanwhile, Molly’s speaking about Issa with her therapist Dr. Rhonda and the therapist notices there’s a theme between Issa and all of the others that did her wrong. She tells Molly she shuts down when she has an issue with people. Dr. Rhonda also asks if her relationship with Issa worth repairing.

Issa’s at her place working on a project when Nathan texts. She lets him know she can help him move. She calls Kelli next but gets her voicemail. Ahmal’s available and she asks for advice about what to do about Nathan and Lawrence. The advice doesn’t seem to be worth anything so she fantasizes about calling Molly. Issa asks to meet up and talk but this leads to Molly cussing her out in the dream. In real life, Issa gets Molly’s voicemail.

Issa and Molly hang out at brunch.

The next day, Issa’s at a diner waiting on Molly to arrive for brunch. When Molly does, they both exchange a hug and are cordial to start. Things start slow and light between the two as Issa asks about how she’s doing. Molly’s impressed when Issa picked up the tab for their brunch and then tells Molly about helping Nathan move.

Molly heads to Andrew’s and tells him about the brunch. She tells Andrew that what they talked about seemed superficial. She doesn’t like that they didn’t discuss what happened at the block party. Andrew tells Molly that she could’ve brought up the block party, which irritates Molly. Next, Molly declines an offer to attend a Clippers game with Andrew’s brother. So she tells Andrew to just hang out with his brother himself. Meanwhile, Issa’s with her block party intern to talk about their next event. She then calls Lawrence next and his interview went well. Issa also tells him that it felt really good to reconnect with Molly.

Nathan opens up to Issa.

Later on, Issa makes it to Nathan’s apartment and she’s nervous about how to treat him now that’s involved with Lawrence again. As she helps him pack, she does her best to keep it cordial. She tells him about seeing Lawrence again. He chuckles and says Lawrence seems flaky. This irritates Issa.

Issa retorts that Lawrence knows how to not disappear. Things get somber when Nathan reveals he’s been diagnosed as bipolar. So he didn’t just disappear on her. Through this moment of clarity, he tells Issa that she’s someone he wants in his life, friend or otherwise. And he appreciates her. Meanwhile, Molly stops by Andrew’s with dinner, and Andrew brings up how disappointed he felt when she didn’t show up to the game. He tells Molly she can’t keep avoiding his brother.

Issa and Molly discover their friendship is over.

Andrew and Molly’s conversation is interrupted when Nathan walks in with Issa to finish moving out. Andrew and Molly invite them to eat dinner with them. After eating, Issa and Molly seem cool again as they talk about their old drinking games. Nathan suggests they play one of the games and the ladies reluctantly agree. As the game goes on, Molly mistakenly texts Issa that she’s “trying with her.” She was referring to Issa in the text and it was supposed to be sent to Andrew. Issa gets the text and runs out angrily. Molly runs out after her and they finally show their emotions.

Issa says that she can’t be the only one that wants to make their friendship work. Molly replies that maybe who they are now don’t click. Issa just says, “okay” as her rideshare arrives. The episode ends as Issa begins to cry and Molly walks back in.
