Kimmi vents to her friend.

The episode begins with Kimmi out with her friend Keisa. Keisa and Kimmi work together and Kimmi’s over the Holt v. Scott drama. So, this is a nice change of pace for Kimmi as she and Keisa are out ax throwing. Kimmi breaks down how she’s in the middle of LaTisha and Melody. Keisa lets know that LaTisha is being too sensitive. Kimmi also vents about Wanda constantly coming for her over the drama.

Meanwhile, LaTisha’s taking a self-defense class. She says Marsau’s always traveling and it’s important to know how to defend herself. She invited her friend Apryl to the lesson. Apryl’s newly single and LaTisha’s eager to hook her up with someone. However, Apryl isn’t really interested. Instead, Apyrl invites her to speak at an event at Miles College. LaTisha knows that accepting this invite could cause more strife at home as Marsau’s frustrated she hasn’t been home as much.

Melody breaks down about her relationship with her father.

Melody stops in for her session with Dr. Francis. Dr. Francis immediately jumps into how she can keep all of her business balanced with the home. Melody says she doesn’t balance things but rather prioritizes. It comes up from Melody how Martell’s frustrated that Mel’s doing too much. But Melody says she’s always done this since as a child. It was a way for her to make her family proud.

Melody gets emotional when she brings up her father. She didn’t even spend time with her father until she was 16. Mel got frustrated when she would call her father because he’d hardly pick up for her. She got really sad because of this and she hated whenever her mom made her call. It comes up that her drive is a way to compensate for the failure of being unable to have that relationship with her father.

Dr. Francis tells her that she has to be careful because her career-driven mindset could cause her children to feel like she’s not around as her father wasn’t.

Martell and Melody continue to clash.

The next day, Martell and Melody are at home as Melody’s preparing gowns to donate. Martell still feels that Melody needs to slow down, including the play. That rubs Melody the wrong way. In fact, Melody says that she stayed around when Martell was out having an affair so Martell should definitely be supportive of her goals.

Melody brings up how she’s doing so much as a way to avoid facing rejection from her father. She also feels that Martell added to that and says she’s still healing from Martell’s infidelity.

They then argue how about how Martell still tries to control her and tells him she’s not a yo-yo; Martell can’t tell her when to drive for success.

Martell still refuses to be around LaTisha and Marsau.

Later on, Kimmi’s ready to lead her voter registration drive. Kimmi invited the Holts, LaTisha, and Marsau despite all the tension. Wanda showed up too. Martell called Kimmi to let her know that he won’t show up. Martell can’t get past Marsau filing the police report and he can’t be around him and LaTisha as a result. Melody showed up on the other hand. She’s not going to force Martell to be somewhere he doesn’t want to be.

While in the car, Melody explains why Martell didn’t want to show up. Eventually, Kimmi leads everyone to the neighborhood they’re canvassing. While out, Kimmi pulls Wanda aside to talk. Wanda wants to know why Kimmi’s beefing with her. She also lets Kimmi know that she’s going to protect LaTisha. So she doesn’t want Kimmi talking to Melody about LaTisha. Kimmi’s adamant that wasn’t happening. Next, LaTisha and Melody talk one on one. Marsau’s police report comes up and LaTisha says Martell needs to take responsibility for his actions.

Melody feels Marsau lied about being threatened and Melody caught Marsau in many more lies. LaTisha asks for examples as she never caught Marsau in a lie during their marriage. Melody says in her interview that LaTisha needs to stop acting like her marriage is perfect and Marsau hasn’t been caught up.

LaTisha opens up about marital strife.

While back at her house, Melody’s spending time with her new baby when Melody’s half-sister Shalon stops by. Their relationship hasn’t been the best but Melody wants to work on their relationship. Melody brings up that Shalon and she didn’t meet until Melody was 19. That was very hurtful for Melody. Shalon brings up that she felt slighted by Melody’s relationship with their brother Marcus and how Melody didn’t invite her to the baby shower. Melody apologizes and says she wants to put more energy into her relationship with her sister.

Marsau’s out of town for business and LaTisha’s upset with him over something that was said over the phone. So LaTisha calls Apryl for advice. She tells Apryl that Marsau says he feels alone. Marsau says that since LaTisha’s been rediscovering herself, he feels he’s doing everything on his own. Apryl says that LaTisha shouldn’t forget about her marriage and to make sure Marsau feels wanted. She also tells LaTisha that Marsau is dropping hints.

LaTisha says that she understands that these feelings are where men typically step out of their marriage.
