Toni’s impressed with the new music video.
The season finale begins with Toni at home watching the rough cut of her music video for “Gotta Move On” featuring H.E.R. But she struggles to focus because she knows her sisters are in town. She’s excited to see them once their quarantine period ends.
Even though she struggled to focus on the video, Toni loved it. Kenneth, Toni’s manager, calls and she lets them know she loves it. It wasn’t easy to film a music video in the middle of a pandemic but Toni loved the results.
Later on, Toni calls her sisters to let them know she provided a different chef. However, it isn’t just any chef; it’s their mom Evelyn. Toni’s surprise really put a smile on all of their faces. Even Traci’s excited to see her as she wants to have a talk with her.
Evelyn shows up in Los Angeles.
Evelyn says she doesn’t want to stay too long amid the pandemic. She wants the girls to help her cook, much to their chagrin. So, they run off just as Evelyn gets into the kitchen.
Eventually, the girls return just as the food is finished. As they sit down for dinner, a mysterious figure walked in. It turns out to be Toni in a hazmat suit. Toni showed up in the suit because her sisters and Evelyn are still in their quarantine period but she misses them. Toni’s birthday is in a few days and everyone wants to know if she’s going to spend it with them.
Toni’s anxiety causes her to end her visit with her sisters early and leaves them unsure if they’ll see her for her birthday.
Later that night, Trina calls Von to check-in. Although they miss one another, Von lets Trina know she needed this time with her sisters. Towanda calls Sean and learns he doesn’t have the kids. Sean abruptly hangs up. Traci also calls her therapist to map out how she’s going to approach an one on one with Evelyn.
Towanda hires a trainer.
The next day, Towanda has a trainer for the day. The trainer takes them through a cardio workout. The trainer seemingly is hard on Trina as she is experiencing menopause. After the workout, Trina asks Traci if she talked to Evelyn yet. Traci tells them she’ll get around to it. In her interview, Traci says Evelyn feels some kind of way for staying on her dad’s side after the divorce.
Traci revealed Evelyn hasn’t gone back to Maryland in an attempt to not relive her past. Although she isn’t sure where their disagreements stem from, Trina still has Traci’s back.
After the talk, Traci’s ready to express her feelings to Evelyn.
The next day, Towanda takes her sisters to the doctor to have the tattoo of her ex-husband removed. The procedure was quick and surprisingly painless for Towanda. This was done in an effort to prove to Sean she’s ready for him to propose.
Evelyn and Traci have a heart to heart.
Later on, Traci pulls Evelyn aside for their important talk. She first lets Evelyn know she’s seeing a therapist. During their talk, Traci says she wants a connection with her sisters and Evelyn and she wants to feel valued. Evelyn lets Traci know she understands where Traci is coming from and she’s valued. She’s also happy and grateful to be Traci’s mother.
The talk ends with Evelyn and Traci hugging it out.
Before Evelyn leaves, she spends some more quality time with Traci, Trina, and Towanda.
It’s Toni’s birthday and she still hasn’t shown up fully to spend time with her sisters. The last time Toni saw them, she wore a hazmat suit. Everyone’s mood changes when Toni’s assistant James calls, letting them know Toni’s on the way.
So, the sisters quickly get into costume for Toni’s themed birthday party. Before Toni shows up, Trina asks about Sean eventually proposing. Towanda lets them know Sean gives her butterflies and she can’t wait.
Eventually, Toni shows up wearing a beekeeper suit. The girls have fun playing games and eating birthday cake. However, they miss Tamar.
