Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon always appear to be a happily married couple. Since Mariah’s taken somewhat of a break on music for the calls of duty of new motherhood, Nick Cannon has stepped up and taken on several new career opportunities. Nick has been working so hard, that the couple endured a health scare when Nick experienced kidney failure, and had to succumb to bed rest and a break from overworking himself. Since Nick’s recovered, it’s apparent that Mariah, although she enjoys being a mother, is missing making music and having a career of her own. So when it was announced that Jennifer Lopez would be leaving American Idol, the singer instantly became a forerunner in the hunt for the next female judge. Although Nick Cannon originally dismissed the possibility and even said American Idol couldn’t even pay his wife enough to step away from being a full time Mommy, Mariah revealed her interest in the gig and landed a spot on the show. Nick may act like he’s happy for his wife in front of the cameras, but whispers in the industry say Nick is not amused about his wife working again. And he’s allegedly even more salty about Mariah working again because he was enjoying being the breadwinner in the marriage.
Here’s what the reports are saying:
Mariah Carey might be the highest-paid American Idol judge to-date; however, this doesn’t appear to make her husband, Nick Cannon, very happy. Cannon, who happens to host America’s Got Talent, a sort-of rival of American Idol, happens to be furious with his wife over her decision to star on his show’s competitor.
Of course, Cannon said his wife would be “amazing on Idol,” but sources say that privately Nick disapproves and is totally against her taking the job. It was reported that when Carey was in negotiations with Idol’s producers, Nick Cannon commented:
“I don’t know if they can afford Mariah Carey…If they gave J.Lo $20 million, they might have to double that!”
Truth is Cannon wanted Carey to be a stay-at-home mom to their twins, at least until they turn five. He was even hoping to have more kids, but Carey turned the idea down. In desperation, he even offered incentives such as diamond jewelry, luxurious spa vacations, and a gift of $15 million if she would turn down the offer.
Whoa! Do we smell trouble in paradise?
Something tells me that Nick has grown tired of everyone assuming that he’s just living off Mariah’s money. If this is true, hopefully these two won’t let a little thing like careers and money get in the way of their marriage. An ego isn’t worth a divorce.
I know Nick had to be heated when Mariah got the job. He was finally making more money than her. That deal she has with American Idol ended all of that. lmbo
I actually like these two together. They grew on me. I’m sure they are just having a few issues like every marriage will. It’s a good thing that Nick wants to be the breadwinner.
Nick’s jealous. He liked making the most money and now Mariah will be making more money than him, again. But why does that even matter though? They’re rich. Who cares who makes more money. Nick needs to get that ego of his in check. Mariah will not be told what to do. LOL
I don’t know about all of this. Nick has always expressed his support for his wife, and it doesn’t make sense to me. But you never know.
No marriage is perfect, but I think these two may have the real deal. They’ll work it out if there’s a problem.
Eh, I’m not sure I believe this one. Like D.A. said, Nick has always been supportive of Mariah, and vice versa. If this is in fact an issue for them, I’d think it has more to do with Mariah no longer being a full-time mom versus his being mad that she’d be making more than him.
