Kendrick Lamar album goes platinum? Kendrick Lamar is by far one of the most talented young stars in the rap game right now. And K Dot recently proved that he is truly a force to be reckoned with when it comes to his lyrical delivery. Kendrick Lamar was featured on Rapper Big Sean’s song “Control” and he rapped a verse that caused the social media world to go completely crazy as Kendrick challenged Drake, ASAP Rocky, Meek Mill, J. Cole, Wale and a few of his other peers to step their game up lyrically. While some people felt Kendrick’s verse was a diss to the rappers he mentioned, a number of those who were mentioned in the song have spoken out and said they were actually very honored that Kendrick dropped their names in his verse. Even with a few NY rappers going after Kendrick over his “King of New York” claim on “Control” and other rappers making it clear that they aren’t impressed with the verse, the vast majority of people are thankful that Kendrick breathed some much-needed life back into Hip Hop.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse is still a hot topic and because of all the buzz he generated with his controversial verse, his album sales have increased. And it has helped the Compton rap star officially snag his first platinum album. According to Hot New Hip Hop, the rapper was awarded a platinum plaque for his “good kid, m.A.A.d city” album preemptively this past June. But the final numbers were not in for the album sales until this week as Kendrick’s verse on “Control” helped him to see a 9,000 increase in sales, which pushed K Dot over the 1 million mark at 1,003,000 copies sold.

Congrats to Kendrick Lamar on getting his first platinum album.

  1. Genius marketing. Not only did he get his name out there even more, he got more album sales in the process. I love it.
