“Empire” star Jussie Smollett refuses to let his new stardom hinder him from staying true to himself, and he believes it’s important for him to use his new platform to speak out on issues that affect the black community, as well as the LGBT community.
Interestingly enough, he admits executives tried to keep him from speaking out about police brutality because they worried it would hurt ratings.

Not surprising but it wasn’t about the ratings it’s about the money. They don’t want to mess up the money flow and they don’t want to scare away advertisers that’s why they really didn’t want him speaking.
