Nicki Minaj Makes History (Sorry Lil’ Kim)

Nicki Minaj makes history without an album.

If you thought Nicki Minaj wouldn’t get any further than the urban gossip blogs, you might want to re-evaluate your thinking. Not only is the Head Barbie nabbing awards without even releasing a debut album, she is now climbing the charts and breaking records in the process. Sad to say, these are records that the Queen B herself couldn’t even break.

Nicki Minaj has now been crowned as the first female rapper to have a number one single (without a feature) on the Rap Songs category (Billboard charts) in over 7 years. Her single “Your Love” is really taking off, and she is doing all of this while her Hip-Hop phenom mentor, Lil’ Wayne, is in prison.

In fact, “Your Love” is the first record to top the charts since “Magic Stick” by Lil’Kim and 50 Cent.

And if that isn’t enough, she will be featured on one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year- Kanye’s Good Ass Job. And from what I’m hearing, the track is so dope that music heads are already buzzing about it and the album hasn’t even dropped yet.

In other news, Nicki Minaj’s debut album finally has a release date, and it will drop on November 23.

And if you think she plans on answering to any of those diss tracks floating around, here’s what she’d like to remind you:

“My diss record is my success rate, and how much I can charge to be somewhere for 30 minutes. That’s my diss record. The fact that I can pay your mortgage for a year in 30 minutes. That’s my diss record. That diss record makes everyone go ooooooh word Nicki went in! That’s all I need.”

It’s cool that Nicki has reached all this success without even having an album out, but yeah, I thought battling was part of Hip-Hop?

  1. Money and quick success can't give you true talent. 10 years ago she wouldn't have had a chance. At least she's pursuing her dreams, I just can't say that I like her as an artist. Too many gimmicks for me.

  2. I wish women would stop hating on this woman! Let her do her damn thing. At least she's trying to get hers! Besides the barbie thing, I think she's decent. But the hate she invokes in women is ridiculous.

  3. ^What is there to hate on besides her money? Take that away, and Nicki is just another hoodrat who got LUCKY when there wasn't any competition.Do your thing Nicki, but it will take more than your large salary to impress me. I'm actually more impressed by women who excel in their careers without taking the plastic route or becoming rap sex kittens. They may not be able to pay my mortgage in 30 mins, but they are impressive for succeeding in life with real substance. And in the entertainment industry, that's a rarity. Ya'll can keep valuing money more than substance if you'd like, but I live in the real world, and I'm impressed by those who live in it and survive it.

  4. I agree, not much to hate on but the money. I like some of her music though, but don't be surprised if everyone isn't on the bandwagon. It's a choice people, stop labeling everyone a hater that has a different opinion from yours. It's childish.

  5. It's Barbie Biiiiiiiiiiitttttttchhh!!!! lol i had to yall, i had to.Don't panic she'll become irrelevant like every other female rapper who came before her. Female rappers are cursed before they even pic up the mic.

  6. No one is exempt from battling. Seriously, Biggie, 2Pac, Jay-Z, Nas, and many more with better lyrics have battled. I've heard Nicki's old stuff, and I know she could handle it. I wish she would take the beef to the mic, but hey, nowadays these new rappers think the are too good to prove themselves.
