The very beautiful Halle Berry knows how to keep the movie roles coming as she remains one of Hollywood’s top sought out black actresses, however, since she nabbed the Oscar for Monster’s Ball, Halle has had some difficulty proving that she can be the lead actress in blockbuster films and still bring in the numbers. There’s a few reasons why this may be plaguing the actress, but Forbes thinks Halle’s movies are flopping big time since her Oscar win due to race. Forbes basically called Halle a flop actress in a rather polite way, but says a lot of her failures since her Oscar win might really stem from race relations, and the public still not being sold on seeing films where a black woman is the lead character. Then of course there is the fact that she is now considered “middle aged,” so a writer for the publication suggests that those may be factors as to why Halle isn’t as appealing to large audiences:

“Berry has struggled since winning the Best Actress Oscar in 2002 for Monster’s Ball. Her only hits have been the X-Men films where she plays Storm. Outside of those movies, she’s had a string of either very bad luck or she’s made some very bad decisions. 2004′s Catwoman was a disaster bringing in only $82 million at the global box office. Artier films that seemed like they would have brought her back to the Oscars also failed. 2010′s Frankie & Alice, where Berry played a woman with multiple personality disorder, was ignored by audiences and derided by critics. The film earned a terrible 14 out of 100 on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Last year’s Cloud Atlas was one of the most hyped movies of the year, and one of the biggest bombs. Berry played six different roles in the time bending movie from the Wachowski siblings but the expensive film only earned $121 million at the global box office.

“Why can’t Berry catch a break? She’s gorgeous and a great actress.

“I don’t really know the answer. I’m sure some of it has to do with the fact that she’s a 46-year-old African American woman in a business where the movies are still dominated by white men. Studios just aren’t looking to finance movies that star middle-aged black women no matter how beautiful they are. They’re not financing many movies starring white middle-aged women either so it’s not even like there are color blind roles that Berry could be getting.”

We think Halle could be struggling to carry a film as a lead actress and bring in the numbers because she’s not picking the right scripts. What are your thoughts?

  1. She’s a very pretty woman but that’s it. She’s not a strong actress and that turns people off to her films.

  2. The industry has pretty much made Halle out to be just a pretty face, and people just don’t take her seriously as an actress.

  3. I hate that they are trying to pull the race card here. Especially since we see Kerry Washington be the lead actress on Scandal and the ratings have been insane. Black women can be leads, we just have to pick the right roles. I don’t think Halle does that. And I don’t have any interest in the new movie she has out now. It just looks like something we’ve seen ten times already.

  4. White folks are always trying to pull the race card when it’s convenient to them. They really want us to feel like we can’t be the stars of movies/tv shows or on the covers of magazines without it flopping. Whatever.

  5. Well I guess her run is over. What else can she do? I hope she is not broke! Life is full of up’s and down’s that is why you have to get out the entertainment game early know when your run is over!!!! Hollywood is “known” for making and breaking careers!!! Do something else and live your life and thank God you still have something left “Yourself”.

  6. Halle only “DESCENT” movies is when she is playing a victim….lets face it people shes a sub-par actress who is only a pretty face
