Is there a LL Cool J and Jay-Z beef brewing? Jay-Z’s deal with Samsung still has people talking about the “new rules” he’s introduced when it comes to selling albums. Although there are some who feel it was a pretty genius way to get his new music out, there are many others who believe Jay-Z is a sellout and nothing more than another puppet for the major corporations. Regardless, Jay-Z was still managed to sell over 500k albums in the first week of release independently from Samsung, so it’s clear he didn’t really need the deal to go platinum. But legendary rapper LL Cool J still isn’t impressed and in his recent interview with Revolt TV, he threw a little shade to Jay-Z’s latest deal with Samsung. He says:
“It’s not anything different. mean, if Wal-Mart buys a million records, they bought it. I mean the difference is…If I go sell five million records to Bill Gates or if I sell 10 million records to Bill Gates, I guess I’m diamond. I may not touch 10 million people, but I’m diamond. Numbers are numbers, but I think that in the numbers is truth. But in terms of touching the people it’s a little different.”
The rapper goes on to say he wouldn’t strike a deal with a major corporation like Samsung to push a million records, however he does agree with the RIAA’s move to label Jigga’s new album platinum:
“I think that for me as an artist, I still want to be able to touch the people individually. “It still matters to me that people individually went out and bought my record. Although I do think a million records sold is a million records sold, there’s no question about that. You can’t argue with math. It is what it is and that’s truth. For me, I like to touch the people directly. I like to know that a million people went out and bought my album. Not that I sold a million records to a company. That’s different…But that being said, I think it’s definitely the right move for the RIAA. I agree with that move.”

He’s not feeling the Samsung thing because he says it’s not touching people individually? Ok, but those over 500,000 copies sold last week outside of Samsung touched people individually. Stay mad. LOL.
When it comes to this discussion, you can spot the business minded it from the close minded easily. And that’s all I have to say.

He has a right to his opinion but honestly, people are making this way deeper than it really is. Jay-Z basically got a deal in which he got paid way more for album sales than most artists. It’s a better deal for the artist and other should follow suit. But instead they are hating and that’s why they won’t be worth half a bill anytime soon.
And just to add, why not get more money upfront for an album when most of the world is just going to download it for free anyway? It’s not rocket science.
