Zendaya is Fed up with Cultural Appropriation

At a recent event for her #REALisBEAUTIFUL campaign, Zendaya addressed cultural appropriation to the media.

The Grio writes:

During a recent event for her #REALisBEAUTIFUL campaign, Zendaya sounded off on the way the media has been praising white women like Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry for popularizing “boxer braids” when black women have been wearing cornrows for ages.

“Braids are not new,” Zendaya said. “Black women have been wearing braids for a very long time. We’ve been using that as a protective style, as a hairstyle.”

“Another problem is it became new and fresh and fun, because it was on someone else other than a black woman. You know what I mean? So that is the frustration. That’s where the culture appropriation element comes into play.”

  1. I fux with Z. I love that she uses her platform to speak up for women of color and be a role model to young women.

    1. Sh-t she won me over when she dropped out that trash a-s Aaliyah biopic and then made me a fan for real when dragged that corpse looking idiot on E.

  2. The best way to shut down all these white publications that fuel cultural appropriation is to stop supporting them. I don’t give them any clicks and I don’t buy their magazines either.

  3. Let them know Zendaya I love everything she stands for. Between Zendaya, Amandla, and Yara these beautiful queens have such good head on their shoulders.
