Amid Mo’Nique’s Netflix Pay Controversy, Comedian DeRay Davis Says He Was Paid Millions (UPDATE)

Comedian DeRay Davis had his opinion on Mo’Nique’s call to boycott Netflix. As many know, Mo called for the boycott as negotiations fell through with the popular streaming platform. During an interview with Sway’s Universe, Mo explained the situation and how Netflix was unwilling to up their initial $500,000 offer.

Amid Mo’Nique going viral over this call to action, fellow comedian Wanda Sykes revealed Netflix offered her less than $250,000 for a comedy special of her own.

However, not all are lending their support to Mo’Nique. This includes comedian DeRay Davis, who has his own Netflix Special. While on a Baller Alert post on the subject, DeRay left a shade-filled comment criticizing. Within the comment, he revealed he received $5 million from Netflix, and jokingly said he should ask for $12 million next time.

Some people called him out for the comment, to which led DeRay to further post on the topic via Instagram and Twitter.

In a now deleted post, DeRay says to leave him out of the controversy. He claims he never spoke on anyone else’s check and he worked hard to be paid what he received.

UPDATE: Jada Pinkett-Smith is once again making it clear that she is Team Mo’Nique. Check out her tweets below.

I’m not surprised that a black male comedian sees no issue in any of this. S-xism in our community needs to be addressed way more.

Who? Now they said Monique got that low amount because she’s not popular but I don’t even know who this dude is. How did he get $5 million?

That was very tasteless from Deray. I will be honest when Monique first came with this rant I definitely thought Netflix lowballed her but I felt like of course they going to offer Chapel,Rock, Shumer unfunny a-s more money they can recoup that. But Netflix gave Deray 5 million really gtfoh what the hell has Deray done to deserve 5 million and Monique just 500k. I swear I ain’t trying to be shady only thing I’ve ever seen Deray be in is sitcoms, or in low budget films. I ain’t never heard nobody say oh Deray in town doing a comedy show lets go. Man somebody educate me is he really a hot comedian like that now to command that much maybe I’m just getting older or ain’t intuned with what’s going on. I tell you what Monique case getting stronger everyday.

I hate to say it but Monque will not win this fight. Black people are not here for her. She lost a good bit of us when she came for Oprah and then said she was in an open marriage. Even though she’s right about being pad unfairly, nothing will change because black people do not like her. This would have to happen to Tiffany Haddish for black people to care. And as soon as Tiffany is no longer an under dog and gets way too many wins, black people will turn on her too that moment she shows her imperfections. It’s like clockwork. Only black men get second chances at this fame thing.
