After a blowout from Game 6, The LA Lakers held on to their momentum to win Game 7, making them the 2010 World Champions. This was one of the most intense NBA Playoff Finals series of the millennium as either team could have taken the crown.
The Celtics appeared to have the series in the bag, going up 3-2 against the Lakers. In Game 5, The “Black Mamba” had a 38 point performance. But the Lakers still fell short. Game 4 went to Boston also, leaving them in perfect position heading back to LA. But we all knew the Lakers were going to come out strong. Whoever said home court momentum wasn’t real was sadly mistaken. Heading back home for the last two games of the series was just what the Lakers needed. Although Kobe Bryant did not get going until the 4th quarter, it was Pau Gasol and Ron Artest who stepped up and hit major shots during crunch time. Not to mention excellent play from one of the best clutch shooters in the league, Derek Fisher. Boston had their share of game-changing moments as Rasheed Wallace put a number of unexpected points on the board. The absence of Kendrick Perkins along with Ray Allen’s struggles from behind the arc in Game 7, the Celtics were slightly lacking in both the offensive and defensive areas. But sound play from Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett kept them within striking distance the entire game.
Even though the Celtics didn’t come out on top in this one, they most definitely pushed the Lakers to the limit. Doc Rivers and his squad shouldn’t be too disappointed because this game will definitely go down in NBA history as this one went down to the final seconds.
