Alicia Keys and Ne-Yo’s NBA All-Star Game performances were highly anticipated. Alicia was tapped to be the headline act, and she’s coming off a Super Bowl performance of the Star Bangled Banner that ended up being at the center of controversy as many were outraged that the singer did not stand while she sang the National Anthem. But in the singer’s defense, she was playing the piano while singing the anthem, a feat that probably would have been difficult to do while standing. Regardless, not everyone was angry with Alicia’s performance at the Super Bowl, and she did get positive reviews in addition to the harsh ones.

Alicia’s fans weren’t the only ones looking forward to the performance, the singer was also excited about the upcoming performance at the NBA-All Star game, however, the social networks blew up instantly with negative reviews and play by plays of the Girl on Fire singer’s performance.

Many felt her vocals were not up to par, and they even suggested that Ne-Yo’s performance was terrible as well.

Neyo, who is known to have no qualms speaking his mind…ever; took to his Twitter account to thank those who were keeping it positive, as well as put his “haters” in their place.

He tweets:

Despite the numerous tweets that suggested Alicia Keys was getting her karma for being a “home wrecker,” she opted to keep it positive, and thanked her fans for their support:

Interestingly enough, because Twitter is a messy place, people were tweeting Mashonda and asking her to go in on Alicia’s performance since everyone else was. Mashonda didn’t take the bait, and remained silent throughout the performance. We’re proud of her for keeping it grown.

    1. Agreed. If I was famous, I wouldn’t even have a Twitter account. Twitter is direct access for haters to insult you or a platform to embarrass yourself and ruin your career. Nothing positive seems to come from it for celebs.

  1. Why do people act like Alicia’s terrible singing is new EVERY performance she has? I mean really. She can’t sing live. She was never a strong singer, but her songs were always good. I think people are really slamming her because of the whole Mashonda thing. I really think her career hasn’t been the same since and people refuse to move on from that.

    1. Cosign. I don’t see why this blew up on Twitter. She has never been a good singer, just a great piano player and songwriter.

  2. Alicia didn’t sound good, and Ne-Yo was just terrible. But I don’t think people should have tweeted some of the nasty things they tweeted. People take things too far.

  3. I’m so glad Mashonda didn’t say anything. She doesn’t need to say anything else about Alicia or Swizz. Keep it grown and be classy.

  4. Ne-Yo needs to get out of his feelings. His performance was worse than Alicia’s! I don’t even know what they asked him to perform. Ne-Yo hasn’t been hot in years!
