Lauryn Hill jail time begins today. Lauryn Hill’s tax problems weren’t resolved although she did eventually pay off her IRS debt. Despite making it clear she felt her debts were the result of an unfair system that tends to, she believes, be too harsh on people of color; the singer was still slapped with three months of jail time. Now it’s been confirmed that Lauryn began serving her sentence early this morning.  TMZ reports:

Officials tell TMZ … the former Fugees singer was booked into the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury at 11:15 AM EST.

We’re told the FCI is a “minimum security type facility” where inmates live in “barracks type” housing.

We’re also told 38-year-old Hill will not be isolated in the facility — and will be housed with the general population.

As we previously reported, Hill pled guilty last year to three counts of tax evasion for failing to file returns on $1.8 million she earned from 2005 to 2007.

In an effort to avoid serving jail time, Lauryn inked another deal with Sony Entertainment which requires her to release new music. Lauryn even confirmed on her Tumblr blog that she will release a new album very soon. Before she was sentenced, she released a song that was met with mixed reactions. Now that she learned the deal and money given to her by Sony wasn’t enough to avoid jail although she did pay off the debt in full, we have to assume she won’t be thrilled to get out of jail and record a new album.

  1. Man. Welp, at least I can still pop in that Miseducation album when I need some real music in my life. LOL.

  2. The Feds are so racist towards dark skin blacks that don’t pay their taxes. Shame is the devil!

    1. I agree, no sympathy here. We have to follow the law and pay our taxes or, face the Consequences!
