Who knew Tyler Perry’s latest film Temptation would be so controversial? Not only did the filmmaker get panned by many critics for deciding to give reality star Kim Kardashian a supporting role, but the overall plot of the film was torn to shreds by critics everywhere. Many were outraged that the movie had such strong Christian themes, while others suggested the film was too offensive to women. The producer’s latest movie was also accused of promoting rape and punishing women for having normal needs and issues with marriage. Regardless, the movie had a solid performance at the box office and it appears that Tyler’s loyal fans were happy with the final product. Too bad the popular filmmaker is now facing a lawsuit for the project.

TMZ reports Perry is currently being sued over the film and it’s being said that the lawsuit came into fruition because Tyler is being accused of stealing the plot from another screenwriter:

In the suit, William James says the plot is similar to “Lovers Kill,” which he wrote in 2009. The lawsuit is light on details … it just says both films center on a married couple … the wife is tempted by another man, and the affair ruins the marriage.

Apparently James hasn’t seen “Unfaithful” … “Legends of the Fall” … “The English Patient” — need we go on?

But here’s the best part: James doesn’t even know for sure that Perry ever saw his screenplay — in the suit, he claims he gave a copy to “an associate” of Oprah Winfrey, hoping it would make it to Perry.

Interestingly enough, we heard from William James, the man suing Tyler Perry, a few months ago. He wrote to us and told us he was going to file a suit against Tyler if he continued to ignore his phone calls. Here’s what he wrote to Tyler on one of our posts recently:

“I know is hard trying to run a studio, but once you start making money, you must give back to those who got you there, I know your cheap, because your new movie you got coming out you stoled (sic) it from me, and you know it, I will see you soon, I WANT EVERYBODY TO KNOW YOUR (sic) NOT AS GOOD AS YOU SAY YOU ARE, if you have to steal from writers that is trying to get there, then you are not a good person, so you need to call me and make it right, lets not bring this in the public, I am trying to reach out to you, I hope some of your people is reading this, and if so tell him to call me. We are filing a lawsuit against you monday morning, you have 2 days left.

“Now here’s the real deal, Tyler steals most of his movies, I know because he stoled (sic) mine. The movie Temptation that’s coming out March 29, its my movie I gave my script to Oprah and some how he got it, and now its coming out, now I’m about to sue, its really sad that we treat each other like this, all he had to do was just contact me we could have made a deal, he has millions now he feel he can just take what he wants, most of that movie is about my life, so I wrote about it. Now Tyler if you are reading this you must call me.”

I guess it’s safe to assume Tyler never called him back.

  1. TMZ is trying to make it sound like this guy is lying but I’ve heard how dirty Tyler has done MANY people. So it’s totally possible he stole this movie. This man just needs to make sure he has a damn good lawyer because he’s going to need one.

    1. Man I don’t think he stole jack! The storyline of the movie is not all that original. It was played out before William James’ ass. Tyler don’t owe that man nothing.

  2. This is totally possible. Movies get stolen all the time. And it’s usually the big wigs who do the stealing.

  3. Here we go again blah blah blah Tyler Perry has made plenty movies and have given so many people a start in life and have made them RICH. He can put who ever he want in his movies just like everybody who ever made a movie have. You all need to leave him alone every time it comes to a person of color being successful then everyone wants to tear them down. You all need to be ashamed of yourselves, all of this goons and dogging mess, I am sure that every movie that has been made has similarities to other movies but that doesn’t mean that it was stolen from someone. The worst thing about the comments are once the negative seed is planted then it grows out of control. Name another person besides Tyler Perry who has given so many people of color in his movies and made them stars….tick tick tick …I am waiting for your answer….because he put Kim in his movie everyone is sounding so hateful and prejudice. Make your money …you are a haters worst nightmare and there are a whole lot of people dealing with sleepless nights….

    1. The man he took the script from is black, now what, he only made his self rich, stole Good Deeds, he stole Diary of a mad black women, and he fired 4 black writers because they wanted to be paid like everybody else who writes, who has he made a star other than himself, did he make you a star,if someone stole your car just let the keep it, its a lot of cars that look like that.

  4. Ummm.. that’s terrible if he “stoled” this poor man’s screenplay.. However, I doubt HIGHLY that this person is a screenplay writer, much less good enough to get Tyler Perry to steal from it. Not with that “stoled.” No ma’am. Try again.

  5. It’s possible. It doesn’t matter how terrible someone’s grammar is, an idea is an idea and can be stolen. We’ll just have to see how it all plays out.

    1. Thank for demonstrating some intelligence. Tyler Perry has amazing grammar and look how sh-ty most of his movies are.

  6. You Tyler Perry fans are so annoying. It’s really simple. Not everyone is going to look at his films and call him brilliant. That’s called having different opinions. You’re grown, accept that we won’t all agree. He’s not very good at what he does and that’s MY opinion. Deal with it. Every filmmaker gets criticized. Ever heard of film critics? What do you think they do all day? Why would he be the exception?

Lastly, the writer of this post is not the one who filed the lawsuit genius. So your “no ma’am” should be “no sir” NowHeffaSayWhat? Your name is fitting for your nasty attitude. If you’re going to be a smart a-s, at least have your comprehension skills up to par.

    Ugh.

Happy Friday to everyone else on here with manners and common sense tho.

    1. Hi Shannon! Hey girl/guy! (Because Shannon IS an unisex name.)

Well… I guess you got me together huh? LMFAOOO… While I appreciated you and your soap box this afternoon, let me clear up a few things:

      1. I am not nor have I ever been a Tyler Perry fan, nor has a single one of my coins ever contributed to his box office success.

      2. No where in my comment did it state ANYTHING about anyone having an opinion about a Tyler Perry movie. I WISH I would sit here and debate whether or not a Tyler Perry movie is even worth debating.. A difference of opinion in one’s taste has NOTHING to do with the idea of him stealing from a screenwriter. Stop it. Even if my comment was in poor taste, it literally doesn’t insinuate anything other than the fact that I pointed out the bad grammar that a WRITER wrote in a statement released to this website. Since when is grammar not a vital part of effective writing in ANY setting? Hello? Am I missing something here?

As if there aren’t a million writers claiming that someone somewhere stole their work. Bye girl/guy. And this is not to say that this isn’t common practice – I am well aware of what happens to freelance writers and the like, but I do have the right to voice my skepticism on this particular case. ESPECIALLY after that “stoled”. (Sorry, I had to for reference purposes.)

      3. So, with that being said ma’am/sir… please remove yourself from your soapbox, and purchase yourself a TGIF seat and get your life… Thanks for this though, this was… amusing at best.

Happy Friday to all those who can READ and not get in their feelings. Kudos.

      1. I’m in the vagina club…not like that matters.

I didn’t get you together, I’d have to care enough about you or this topic to do that. Make no mistake though, from your weak response I can see it wouldn’t be hard to do. And again, your comprehension skills have failed you because my last couple of sentences were for you. Hence, your name being brought up where it applied to you.

I said all I needed to say and you’re not important enough or witty enough to keep going back and forth with. But you can take a seat next to the one you offered me. I think you need one.

        Have a good weekend tho…

        1. Once again, GIRL bye (thanks for the gender clarification).. Sarcasm eludes you hon. You clearly cared when you initially commented and felt the need to dedicate a single sentence to me. Remember, I am only responding to your comments my dear. To be honest, I didn’t even think that my comment would even garnish this sort of reaction but the hilarity that has ensued because of it, I can’t thank you enough. Thanks for the great weekend wishes!

          1. Petty! Both of you are wildin. But you look like the weaker person because you’re still responding. What more is there to be said? Or is it that you need the last word? Let it go ladies. *goes back to lurking*

  7. Not a TP fan, but he wrote a play for this movie a few years before. So I don’t think he stole this man’s screenplay considering the play was out before the movie was.

  8. Exactly Henna! At least someone has a good memory and it was called ‘the marriage counselor’, not temptation. C’mon people. Tyler had another case like this a few years back with some woman in Texas and won over her, so please. This is just someone trying to profit off of Tyler’s success.
