Reality television is known for being responsible for some of the most controversial moments in television, however, rapper Shawty Lo’s upcoming reality show has caused a lot of controversy for a show that hasn’t even premiered yet. Last week, Oxygen Network confirmed that they picked up the rapper’s reality series that follows his hectic life that involves his 10 baby mamas, 11 children, and 19-year-old girlfriend. Just days after the network released a statement that divulged its plans for the show which is set to premiere in the spring, many people expressed their outrage with the premise of the show after a sneak peek of it hit YouTube.

The reality show, All My Babies’ Mamas, is supposed to show the dynamics of the modern-day “blended family,” and highlight the “baby mama” factor which has been highly associated with the Hip Hop community.

As if the premise itself wasn’t ridiculous enough, Oxygen Network confirmed in a statement that it did pick up the show because it  is “ratchet” enough to get high viewership:

Oxygen will give fans an intimate look at unconventional families with larger than life personalities and real emotional stakes,” says Cori Abraham, Senior Vice President of Development, Oxygen Media. “’All My Babies’ Mamas’ will be filled with outrageous and authentic over-the-top moments that our young, diverse female audience can tweet and gossip about.”

This bold new series shows every second of the drama-filled lives surrounding a unique “modern” family unit, as they navigate their financially and emotionally connected lives. As the household grows, sometimes so does the dysfunction, leaving the man of the house to split his affection multiple ways while trying to create order. With humor and heart, this dynamically linked family must find a way to all get along… but sharing your man with several opinionated women is bound to create issues. Will there be a conflict over a family holiday, who needs school supplies and who holds the household finance purse strings, or can these feisty babies’ mamas band together and live peacefully as one family unit?

Well, it looks like the show has managed to cause the controversy the network was hoping for because the other day a petition to stop the show from premiering hit the web on Change.org. Sabrina Lamb, the creator of the petition explains why the petition was started and writes:

By pushing these degrading images, your company seeks to profit from the humiliation of girls and women and the blatant stereotyping of African Americans. We think Oxygen and the show’s creators and producers have gone too far and if this show is aired, we will, without hesitation, boycott any and all companies that advertise during this minstrel show.

The petition is only a few days old, but has over 3000 signatures so far.

As for Shawty Lo, he seems to have no shame in his new show. He took to Twitter to tweet about his “haters” when he started to receive some nasty tweets about the premise of All My Babies’ Mamas.

Oxygen Network is the same network that is responsible for Bad Girls Club, which is one of the trashiest reality shows on television. The show puts a group of random young women in one house, and captures their fights, drunken partying ways, and promiscuous sex on camera. So far, the network hasn’t budged on the show’s spring premiere.

  1. Petitions are pointless. If you don’t like something, don’t watch the show. Protesting with your eyeballs does more than any petition will. In fact, articles about these petitions do nothing but increase publicity of the show.

    1. This isn’t all the way true. Petitions can make advertisers pull away and force the network to make some changes. That petition for BBW made them lose a lot of money because businesses no longer wanted to be associated with the show. It forced them to change the platform of the show. I bet you there won’t be anymore violence on the show now. I’m going to sign this one too.

  2. I need to sign up. That show is despicable. I understand baby mamas is a part of reality, but can black folks stop looking stupid on TV? When will it end?

  3. Y’all need to quit hatin on the man. Y’all whack haters are jealous of Shawty Lo gettin his shine on and makin dat bred.

    1. Shawty Lo is broke and hasn’t been relevant since Laffy Taffy. Any “man” that needs a reality TV check to take care of his 10 baby mamas, 11 kids, and one girlfriend doesn’t warrant jealousy. Trust me.

    2. This is proof that the word “hating” is overused. No one is “hating” on a man who has 10 baby mamas and 11 kids. No one wants that kind of life, not even Shawty Lo.

      1. 1. Shawty-Lo ain’t broke and Neva will be.

        2. Y’all broke selves don’t understand that my iPhone 5’s auto correct messes up the word bread.

        3. He ain’t hurtin y’all, he gon do him and y’all need 2 do y’all. Maybe if y’all were shinnin like Shawty, ya won’t be hatin.

        1. The only thing I will hate on Shawty Lo on is that painted on hair and beard he rocks. Lookin like someone colored that ish in with a permanent marker.

  4. These woman are willing participants, They made themselves look stupid the moment they allowed themselves to get knocked up by this fool! I say air the show maybe when they look at the show they can see how stupid they look and maybe they will make a positive change.
