TLC is all set to drop their biopic on VH1 in the fall, but the project itself hasn’t been easy considering the group’s film has already been the target of lots of criticism because of the actresses chosen to portray the members of the iconic girl group. If that wasn’t enough, Left Eye’s sister recently spoke out against the remaining group members and claimed they didn’t let her or anyone else in the deceased rapper’s family know shooting for the film had started. She was also upset no one “consulted” her or Left Eye’s mother when putting the film together.

It now appears there is even more drama between Left Eye’s family and T-Boz and Chilli. The group just released a remix to their smash hit “Waterfalls,” however, Left Eye is not on the track and instead a Japanese artist covers the legendary verse penned by the female rapper. This of course has caused some anger with the group’s loyal fans and Left Eye’s family. E! News reports:

Family members of late singer Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes were not happy when they found out that the surviving members of TLC had recruited Japanese pop star Namie Amuro to sing Lopes’ verse on a new remix of their hit tune “Waterfalls,” off of 1994’s CrazySexyCool.

“I did not know about it until a fan posted it online,” Left-Eye’s sister Reigndrop Lopes told TMZ, noting that her mother was hurt as well. “I mean, it would have been nice if they would have given us a heads up before being surprised.”

But Reigndrop added, so long as the song is just released in Japan, then she’s OK with it. Meanwhile, the revamped tune has been yanked from YouTube, where it was labeled “20th Anniversary Version—Japan Edition.”

T-Boz took to her Twitter account to respond to the disappointed tweeted by fans and accusations that she and Chilli disrespectfully “replaced” Left Eye in the remix. She tweets:

@JKingOfOneself its a tribute TO Lisa in her lyrics…don’t believe the hype

#Shhhhh with a special finger if u don’t know what ur talking about! Don’t believe the hype…

@Tupacaveli u don’t know what ur talkin about bless your heart you’ll see soon enough it’s in Lisa’s words its a Tribute to her not replaced

  1. Now I love me some TLC but they probably should have explained the circumstances to their fans before this blew up in their faces. I don’t think they intended to be malicious though.

  2. It’s really starting to sound like Left Eye’s family is being too overdramatic. Every little thing T-Boz and Chilli do is a problem. I mean damn.

  3. TLC was one of my favorite groups growing up. I’m not sure what the beef is with them and Left Eye’s fam, but I hope they resolve it. This is getting messy.

  4. More drama. What is going on with them. I don’t think the song needed a remix but it sounds like they are broke and trying to make money. But I agree getting someone to cover Left Eye’s part is not “replacing” her.
