Beyonce’s latest album did impressive numbers in its first week, but many thought her album sales would be affected greatly since major retailers Target and Amazon confirmed to Billboard that they would not be selling her album.

Specifically, Amazon is only selling the MP3 version of the album, while Target isn’t selling the album at all.

Walmart, Best Buy and even Starbucks have all committed to selling the CDs in stores, but with Amazon and Target pulling in a high number of music sales throughout the world, many figured the singer’s numbers would begin to decline drastically. But now it appears the exact opposite is happening.

According to Hits Daily Double, Beyonce’s second week sales projections have actually increased since the two retailers have vowed against selling the album. Originally Bey was projected to sell around 260,000 copies in the second week, but those numbers have greatly increased since the snubs. The publication writes:

Physical sales on Beyoncé’s year-end blockbuster are now projected at over 100k, thus raising the overall projection to 375k+ for the chart week ending today; it’s likely that the album will reach the 1 million mark imminently, if it hasn’t already. Retailers who have chosen not to carry the Columbia megadiva’s album (due to the first-week iTunes exclusive) appear to have hurt only themselves.

It appears that in a twist of fate, Beyonce’s fan base was actually energized by two major retailers attempting to shut down the singer’s album sales. In other words, the snubs seem to be making them go out in droves to purchase the CD version of the album. Bad publicity may not be so bad after all, at least when it comes to Beyonce’s album sales.

  1. Yeah it does seem like Target and Amazon ended up helping her more than hurting her. It sure did make me get more copies. LOL.

  2. Man I had to go against the man code and buy this album. I have to support an artist who is willing to go against the machine to do what she wants to do.

  3. People just don’t understand that trying to make some fail or trying to tear someone down who doesn’t deserve it only makes sure they win in the end. Sorry haters. And did Target ever get that whole hacking thing worked out? LOL.

  4. Someone called this on here! I can’t remember who it was but they were spot on. Target and Amazon should have just quietly not sold the album. By bringing attention to not selling it, it’s given Bey more promotion and got the BeyHive all worked up. More sales for Bey. Thanks Target and Amazon.

  5. Bey’s fans may be a bit on the nutty side (lol), but they are extremely loyal. Her haters have encouraged them to support her like never before. That’s why I say hating is counterproductive. It only guarantees that the person you’re hating on wins. If you want someone to lose, stop talking about them. Silence kills careers, not hate.
