Brandi Maxiell Takes Credit for Saving BBW’s Ratings, But Should She?

If you’ve been keeping up with the current season of “Basketball Wives,” then you already know it’s been a rocky road for Brandi Maxiell.

Tami Roman revealed that she no longer wants to be around Brandi to her bestie Malaysia Pargo, but that didn’t stop Malaysia from inviting Brandi to Evelyn Lozada’s celebratory dinner for her successful IVF treatment.

When Brandi arrived, Shaunie O’Neal, Tami and Evelyn all decided to walk out of the restaurant and they refused to speak to Brandi.

Brandi accused all three women of being “intimidated” and even claimed that Shaunie is the one behind their actions.

Now she’s taking credit for “saving” the ratings.

Earlier today, Blogger That Grape Juice credited her for helping the show bounce back from a ratings “slump”:

On April 17th, the show’s season six premiere pulled in 2.61 million viewers who tuned in to catch Lozada’s long-awaited return to the lowbrow fray.

However, by May 7th (only four episodes into the cycle) that number slipped to a worryingly low 650,000 as storylines fronted by O’Neal and the gang failed to sustain its high.

This is where things get interesting.

For, the following episode saw the show soar to the 1.8 million viewers point followed by another which swam to the 1.9 million mark.

What (or who) saved it from its slump?

Undoubtedly unimpressed by her “dismissal”, a total of 3,790,000 viewers tuned in to catch Maxiell’s comeback episodes between May 8th and May 15th.

Brandi took to Twitter to show she’s in agreement with the article:

So did Brandi really help the “ratings slump” from May 7? Not so fast.

On May 7, VH1 aired “Basketball Wives” on a Sunday night. As you know, the show regularly airs on Monday nights at 9pm, meaning a dip in viewership is expected since not everyone was aware of the special showing on Sunday night.

Notice that the show rebounded quickly to it’s normal ratings on the following day, a Monday, with no issues.

So it’s looking like Brandi’s appearance on the May 8 episode didn’t “save” ratings. Most likely, viewers were returning to watch the show on it’s regular air day, Monday, May 8.

Interestingly enough, Evelyn’s return actually did do something for ratings and made history. The controversial reality star actually helped the show reach a series high.

One would imagine the ratings will also be strong when Jennifer Williams makes her official return.

As for Brandi and Malaysia, Shaunie claimed in a recent interview that they will only have minor appearances on the show this season. So we’ll have to see how everything plays out.

  1. This girl is so lame. I could tolerate her before but this season I really can’t stand her. Her and Malaysia can both go.

  2. Did they really go above and beyond to try to make Brandi look more important than she is? What’s really going on? The way her and Malaysia are acting, I’m starting to think their jobs are on the line and they are getting desperate. That blog reads like Brandi sent it in herself.

    1. That’s exactly what it is. They didn’t think they would get cut out of so many episodes. Production basically brought them back and realized they really aren’t needed. That means their futures are questionable so they have to use social media to make them look more valuable to production.

  3. Did she really think people wouldn’t catch on to the fact that ratings flopped because it came on Sunday instead? The thirst is real. Brandi is panicking.

  4. I never had an issue with Brandi and still don’t now. But it’s odd to me how her and Malaysia say they make the show but they were chasing Ev, Tami and Shaunie out the restaurant because they don’t want to film with Brandi. I mean do they (Brandi and Malaysia) make the show or not? Because if they do, there’s no point in trying to force Tami and them to film with them. They are acting like spoiled brats with all this kicking and screaming.

  5. The LA show started to struggle after Draya left. Let’s just be completely honest. It got interesting again when Tami came. And now it’s on everyone’s radar because Evelyn is back with Jenn in the pipeline. I know Brandi wants to be a factor but she just isn’t and I think it’s because most people find her to be obnoxious. And this right here is just more proof of how obnoxious she can be at times. How do you take credit for something you never made a success in the first place?

  6. Yeah I saw this earlier and just had to shake my head. The reach. All of a sudden we’re supposed to believe Malaysia and Brandi make the show? And that the Miami crew ain’t interesting and ain’t the reason BBW was so successful and got a spinoff in the first place? So much history is being rewritten by Brandi and Malaysia it’s insane.

  7. She’s so pressed. Malaysia too. They literally sit on Twitter all day and discuss the “Golden Girls” and how everyone really watches for them. So damn delusional.

  8. When did Brandi and Malaysia get so full of themselves though? Like I’m really starting not to like them.
