Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta Recap: Reginae Defends Lil’ Wayne + Claps Back at TI

Bow Wow returns to the A.

Bow Wow is in town to promote his mixtape with Soulja Boy. While riding around in his Mercedes, Joie Chavis called him to check in. Bow Wow mentioned he isn’t successful in relationships. The two of them aren’t dating at this time but are co-parenting.

While on the phone, Joie tells him, “no strip clubs.”

Although he agrees not to end up partying, he later ends up partying.

Bow Wow pre-games before the real party begins.

Bow Wow heads to his hotel suite where a pre-game is going down for his mixtape release party. Joie called him while he was there but sent it quickly to voicemail.

We are introduced to Brandon.

The next day, we see Brandon, the brother of Waka Flocka and Son of Deb Atney. He is in artist development, like Deb.

Brandon is with his cousin Ayana. She is the daughter of Beastie Boys DJ, DJ Hurricane.

While shopping, Deb meets up with Brandon and Ayana. Deb is not too keen on Brandon wanting things easy.

JD and Bow Wow meet up in the studio.

Bow Wow meets up with Jermaine Dupri, his mentor.

JD and Bow Wow made plenty of records in the past, however, JD thinks he does need to focus on his craft more than he has in the past. He thinks mixtapes with Soulja Boy won’t cut it.

“You gotta make that turn.” -JD

Reginae Carter defends her dad.

The two of them are at a skate park in Atlanta. As they bond, Reginae’s phone blows up with criticism of her dad. Lil Wayne had some not so good things to say about the Black Lives matter movement. She gets on social media to stick up for her dad.

Zonnique and Brandon clash.

Tiny’s daughter Zonnique is n her office and they discuss Lil Wayne’s Black Lives Matter Movement comments. Reginae and Zonnique used to be in the group, “OMG Girls.”

They don’t agree with Weezy’s comments but they do feel like he didn’t mean any harm. They are also concerned TI may end up responding and making matters worse.

“He ain’t going to like this.” – Tiny to Zonnique

Tiny also feels Zonnique is lazy and needs to stay in the studio to master her craft. She keeps asking about Zonnique’s voice lessons.

As the two of them are hanging out, Brandon appears. He is Zonnque’s voice coach. He feels Zonnique has a good voice but needs to work on her range.

Brandon seems to get irritated that Zonnique keeps responding to texts on her phone as they are practice. However, Reginae seems to be occupying her attention.

This really irritates Brandon and goes off on Zonnique.

“Hit me when you really dead-a*s serious about this.” -Brandon

Zonnique and Reginae meet up to discuss the drama.

The two meet up in a boutique in Atlanta. Reginae is mad at Lil Wayne and the people bashing him on the internet over his BLM statement. Meanwhile, TI responded to Lil Wayne on Instagram. The two seem to really be frustrated about their dads and their responses in the media.

Reginae wants to respond to TI but won’t because of her respect of her friend Zonnqiue.

Zonnique also promises to stay out of it.

Da Brat and Bow Wow hang out.

Bow Wow refers to Da Brat as, “his sister.” They roll up and meet Jermaine and his daughter Shaniah. Bow Wow lets them know about his mixtape release party and JD is apprehensive about having his daughter attend.

“Don’t follow in our footsteps.” -JD to Shaniah

While they are at his house, Bow Wow tells Da Brat and JD know he wants to release another album. It’s been six years since the last release. However, JD and Da Brat aren’t sure he is serious. They think he needs to move back to Atlanta and really focus.

“To work with JD, you got to be in the A.” -Da Brat

However, Bow Wow doesn’t want to leave LA due to Joie and their daughter.

Bow Wow does some radio promo for his mixtape with Soulja Boy and his upcoming party. When asked if he will get back with Joie, Bow Wow mentioned that he is contemplating it.

When asked about the BLM controversy between Lil Wayne and TI, Bow Wow straddles the fence. He remains diplomatic as he knows everyone involved and worked with Lil Wayne and TI respectively.

Bow Wow’s Mixtape Release Party is a success.

The whole cast shows up for his mixtape tape party. Brandon and Ayana show up first and he is still salty about Zonnique’s behavior during their voice lesson.

Meanwhile Da Brat shows up with intentions of convincing Bow Wow to permanently return to Atlanta.

As the party gets going, Zonnique shows up and Brandon is side eying her. Zonnique approaches him with intentions to apologize.

“I think I should approach him and apologize for my behavior.” -Zonnique

Deb showed up to the party and Brandon felt, “Awkward.”

“Just don’t start doing that twerking s*** Debbie.” -Brandon

Reginae doesn’t take her mother’s advice.

Reginae and Toya head out to eat instead of Bow Wow’s party since she’s still just 17.

Toya is frustrated with TI for airing out his beef with Lil Wayne’s BLM comments publicly.

“Lil Wayne be in his own lil world. Those who really know him know how he really is.” However, she doesn’t want Reginae responding.

“This is a discussion between two grown a** men.” -Toya

However, Reginae doesn’t listen. When Toya steps away from the table, she responds to TI on Instagram.

Zonnique sees the message and is livid.

“The beef is between our two fathers but you responded. Now, I got beef with you.” -Zonnique

Bow Wow Feels Threatened.

Back at the party, Bow Wow sees people enter his party he doesn’t mess with anymore. Bow Wow feels threatened and has security kick out those he doesn’t rock with any more. Bow Wow, yells out to his people, “We got guns!”

“If you don’t get along with someone, why even come?” -Bow Wow

Bow Wow lets Da Brat know what’s going on and she seems ready for some stuff to pop off. The drama just reminds him of why he left Atlanta in the first place.

  1. Reginae defends Lil Wayne more than he defends himself. He doesn’t really care what strangers think about him. That’s about the only thing I respect about him.

  2. I use to think Reginae was such a good pretty girl with a good head on her shoulders just to see first hand she is an immature spoiled brat. She really needs to humble herself like Zonnique and stay out of grown folks business!!! She is trying way too hard! And Deb Abney son is soooo anoying AND his cousin. I think this cast is going to cheapin the show with all of this fussin and fighting it’s making it look like another Love & Hip Hop the kids edition.

    1. This!! Reginae so damn grown and gets on my nerve. I also wanted to go through the TV & punch Deb son in his face!
