Candiace Dillard Bassett Says Gizelle Bryant & Chris Bassett Have Been Flirty in Front of Her

Carlos King asked Candiace Dillard Bassett to speak on colorism.

Candiace Dillard Bassett has been vocal about the backlash she receives from “Real Housewives of Potomac” fans. She doesn’t think it’s fair. In fact, she believes people are harder on her than they are on Ashley Darby. It’s led her to think that this is due to colorism. And she said more about this when she appeared on “Reality with The King.” Interestingly enough, she thinks “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kenya Moore is in the same boat.

Carlos King said, “You remind me so much of Kenya. And one thing you are vocal about on Twitter is that you feel like because you and Kenya are dark-skinned women people love to villainize the two of you when y’all light skin counterparts can say the same thing or worse. They don’t get the same treatment. And you really do say that a lot on Twitter. Can you talk to me about that please?”

Is colorism a problem within the RHOP fan base?

Candiace said, “I have not experienced colorism in the way that I have on this platform anywhere else in my life. And I grew up in primarily white spaces. I have been the token Black girl in a lot of rooms. And even in those spaces, you get the, ‘Oh you’re pretty to be a Black girl.’ You get that. But the colorism is nuanced. And it’s often felt within your own cohort, within your own community. And I guess because I didn’t have much of a community that looks like me growing up, that wasn’t something that I was ever aware of or made privy to until later in life.”

She referenced the similarities with Ashley, “And even then, it still wasn’t on my radar til this show. I am doing my job and cussing and fussing and carrying on in a way that is similar to, I’ll use Ashley as an example cause we’re kind of similar in age. She brought me to the show expecting that we would have a rapport. And Ashley is one she can get buck, she can roll her neck, her eyes can pop out of her head. She’ll give you what needs to be given in the moment.”

Friends told Candiace Dillard Bassett she was a victim of colorism.

Candiace’s close friends told her she was a victim of colorism, “I started to notice…knowing that Ashley had given us those moments, those aggressive moments, that my time in giving those same moments were harped on much more intensely. And I really had to take a step back and say what is it? At first, you just say…you’re just kind of dumbfounded. But you’re saying I’m aggressive? But we just watched her get in somebody’s face and do the finger and roll her neck and do all that. So it just dumbfounded me at first. But it took me having conversations with my real smart friends, my off-TV friends to realize what I was experiencing was colorism.”

She added, “I don’t know that the cast is necessarily engaging in it. Maybe there is some dog-whistling but it certainly comes from the audience. I think the beneficiaries of colorism have a responsibility to call that out. And I don’t see that happening.”

Candiace Dillard Bassett said she’s seen Gizelle Bryant and Chris Bassett flirt with each other.

When it comes to Candiace’s fallout with Gizelle Bryant, she once again confirms Gizelle accusing Chris Bassett of hitting on her was the final nail in the coffin.

After Carlos asked if Chris is attracted to Gizelle, Candiace answered, “You would have to ask him that. I would say no. We had an event at Karen’s [Karen Huger] house two years ago. It was a couple’s date day. And one of the questions was if you had to sleep with someone else in this group or if you had to date someone else in this group…something like that. Who would it be? And everyone answered, except for Eddie [Osefo] because Wendy [Osefo] was giving him the eyes.”

She continued, “For me…Chris said Gizelle. And I also guessed Gizelle only because…Gizelle is very flirty with Chris. And Chris flirts back with Gizelle and this happens in front of me. It has never given me pause or made me feel threatened in any kind of way because Chris does not want Gizelle’s 50-year-old ****. Why would he want that when he has this?”

Porsha Williams is someone Candiace Dillard Bassett clashed with while filming RHUGT.

Candiace pities Gizelle, “It also kind of gave me, okay this is excess, flirtatious energy coming from a woman who doesn’t have that at home. This is just something that she does. Gizelle has a history and there is a reputation there of her being fast in her past and her being loose in her past. These are facts. I’m not making this up. So I see her flirting with Chris, and I’m like po thing. Po thing. That’s cute. It never bothered me.”

The upcoming season of “Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip” will feature Candiace, Gizelle, Porsha Williams, and others. Candiace confirmed she clashed with Gizelle and Porsha, “It was an interesting time with Porsha. She is something else. But so am I (laughs).”

Carlos asked who Candiace fussed with the most outside of Gizelle. And she said the answer would have to be Porsha.

“If I had to say who did I fuss with more than Gizelle, it wasn’t the snow bunnies. It wasn’t Leah [McSweeney]. Probably Porsha. Yeah. If I had to say more than Gizelle…Gizelle was the most. But yes, probably if I had to say, Porsha. But again, I say that it was an interesting time because it ebbed and flowed. There was a lot that went on. It was 10 days but it felt like 10 months. There was a lot of evolution and stopping and going and fussing and carrying on that took place.”

As we reported, Porsha supported Monique Samuels after the altercation took place. She said Candiace wanting to have Monique arrested was an overreaction. And she also pointed out that Ashley didn’t call the police after the butter knife scene. Porsha also said she couldn’t understand why Candiace was traumatized by the altercation. In her opinion, Candiace only got her hair pulled.

Candiace clapped back. She said Porsha was the first housewife to take things too far when she attacked Kenya at the reunion. So she understood why Porsha would support Monique. And she doesn’t believe they were raised right.

  1. So much to unpack but great read and interview. First, I’ve been with my husband for a long time. We have never flirted with other people in each other’s faces. And we don’t mess around with that kind of stuff ever because infidelity is a dealbreaker for both of us. Chris and Gizelle are both wrong and they need to be more respectful to Candiace. And that’s the thing. You give Gizelle just a little and she’ll turn it into a lot. Now Chris is Gizelle’s new target. Had Candiace nipped this in the bud from the beginning, Gizelle wouldn’t have material now.

On the colorism stuff, I can’t speak for anyone else but me. But Candiace’s skin tone has never been an issue for me. I liked her a lot in her first season because she stood up to Gizelle and Charrisse so easily. I love that she wasn’t afraid of the OGs. But her internet antics turned me off. I hated how things went down with Monique. Candiace allowed Gizelle to use her to get Monique off the show and I never liked that because I knew Gizelle would turn on her next. But I will say I started liking Candiace again after the last reunion. She had a solid performance. And she reminded me of her old self I enjoyed.

Lastly, I have a feeling she dragged Porsha something serious. RHUGT is going to be great.

  2. I respect Candiace’s confidence but if he flirted with her in front of you, what do you think he’ll do when you’re not around? I like Chris but I’m giving him the side eye now.

    1. Candice and Chris have been too pressed on Social Media since the trailer so I knew there was something there but I did not think they were flirting in front of her – that is so disrespectful to me. Don’t forget she said that Chris said that if he had to sleep with someone in that group, he would sleep with Gizelle but she’s now asking what he would want from her – she is too ignorant for me.

  3. Hmm…Candiace may be right about her and Kenya experiencing colorism because people treat them like they murdered people when fan favorites have done much worse.

  4. Wah wah wah colorism. Stop! As a dark skin woman I get annoyed when this is used when not applicable. She acts like a child. Outburst and tantrums and all. Has nothing to do with her color. I’m not fond of her and I’m also dark

      1. This colorist nonsense has gone way out of control concerning Candice, it’s almost like she is obsessed with it, on the last reunion there were some talk about colorism and it surprised me that Candice made the comment that she couldn’t help it being dark skinned, there is nothing wrong with her complexion, the prettiest woman I had ever seen in my life was a dark complexion woman, she would make Giselle want to go and hide.

  5. It’s not colorist, its dislike for bad behavior. Candace likes to dish but she doesn’t like to receive and she goes below the belt.
