Monica Says Motherhood Keeps Her From Making Raunchy Music

In a recent interview with Cocoa Fab, Monica explains why motherhood has her more careful about picking songs and singing certain lyrics.

She says:

“It heightens the awareness and it makes what used to be a not big deal lyrically a very big deal. Even though I’m serious about separating my children from TV and music and real life, that’s not the case in every household. For a lot of children, the music and TV is raising them. I’m more conscious of the things I do.

“I just worked on Jeezy’s project because he’s speaking to a generation of kids who lack the knowledge and understanding of what’s really happening in their communities. I’m a part of things that mean something and reach people and teach people. It heightens your awareness and make it more important to be very responsible.

“There are some things I just won’t sing now. There are a lot of hit records that were brought to me that I turned down because I’m not so focused on hit-making as I am about leaving a lasting legacy and leaving people with a special feeling,” she explains. “I’m more into the kind of music than just chart-topping.”

Monica’s upcoming studio album “Code Red” is slated to drop on December 18.

  1. Let me get this sh-t straight. Monica, the same chick who thinks dating dope boys is some sh-t to be proud of only feels the need to give a sh-t about being a role model when it comes to her f-cking song lyrics? Does she not understand her kids will be more influenced by her real life sh-t than those songs she’s singing? Now this is the sh-t that annoys the f-ck out of me.

    1. Ms. Jackson get outta my head girl. I was reading this chit saying, well what about the dope dealing boyfriends and baby daddy? Do that not count or something? And glorifying being an OG “Trap Queen” to the world is that not influential? I think she needs to rethink what she said.

    2. Like I really respect women wanting to be role models and keep things clean but Monica we haven’t forgot about the whole Trap Queen debacle ma’am. Please have a seat.

  2. That’s cool but she has to be a role model in other ways too. Just several weeks ago she was bragging about being a trap queen back in the day. What kind of message is that sending young black men and young black women?

  3. She’s one of those…they swear singing about s-x is worse than glamorizing hood sh-t, you know the real sh-t that is killing black people.
