Dr. Eugene Harris and Toya Bush-Harris defended selling their dream house.

Toya Bush-Harris and Dr. Eugene Harris have opened up about their financial ups and downs on “Married to Medicine.” At one point, they owed a lot in unpaid taxes. So a financial advisor urged them to change their lifestyle. This led to the couple downsizing their home and cutting back on spending as much as possible. Eugene was fine with this because their house was their biggest bill at the time.

After they were able to cut down expenses and pay off debt, they threw a “Back in the Black” party. Dr. Contessa Metcalfe called this out. And she said she couldn’t understand why anyone would celebrate paying off their bills. This would later lead to drama between Contessa and Toya.

Well, Eugene and Toya went on to have a custom house built that they labeled as their dream home. Toya got her two-story closet and Eugene was able to get a man cave and an excellent barbecue and swimming pool area. However, they decided to sell the house. And they have since decided to rent a house down the street from their former dream home. However, they do have another custom-built house in the works. They said it should be ready by April 2023.

“Married to Medicine” fans had a lot to say about this as the Season 9 premiere aired. Some have accused the couple of having money problems. Others have called out Toya because they feel she will only keep Eugene overworked and stressed to keep up the affluent lifestyle.

Toya responded to some of the criticism on Twitter. When one person said they don’t understand why they would sell the dream home, Toya tweeted, “Money honey!!! Just build another!!! #married2med”

She wanted fans to know that it was about taking advantage of the seller’s market, “Learn how to make your money work for you…#givenequity #givenbossb*tch #dtown #whatupdoe #married2med @eugeneharrisIII”

As for Eugene, he had a similar response. He tweeted, “The comments regarding the house are funny! Did anyone take the time to ask what type of profit we made in selling a “dream house”? #married2med #youdhavesoldtoo!!! lol”

  1. None. In a previous article it stated they broke even on the sell of the home. Very poor financial decisions. The cost associated with buying and selling a home can be costly. You would think with kids involved there would be discussions of generational wealth and investments, doesn’t sound like much thought is being placed on that front.

  2. I think many of us understand equity and profiting in a seller’s market. But the amount of times Toya and Eugene move is fishy and doesn’t seem financially savvy.

  3. The problem is even though it was a seller’s market, selling your house and then having to find a new house to move into could drastically cut into the profit. They sold their really nice home to rent one down the street. Then Toya said the house they just sold didn’t have a big enough pool, an elevator, and tennis court when it was a custom built house and they were supposed to ask for all the amenities they wanted. None of what they are saying is adding up. But whatever. It’s not like we know these people anyway.

  4. Those articles were WRONG. I don’t care for Toya but you can google the title docs and see that they made a 900K profit from the house sale. They bought the house at $2 million and sold it for $2.9 million. The problem is people get to attached to their homes, It’s an asset who would leave close to $1 mil on the table? Toya and Eugene only had one mortgage that was $1.6 because they put 300K down.

    1. Warren Buffett is a billionaire and he’s lived in the same house since 1958. If you have to make $900k by buying and selling/renting your house every year, you’re not great at investing. Most of their profits will be eaten up from building another custom house and renting the house they are in now because they bought land in a seller’s market. Let’s also not forget they don’t even get to keep all of that $900k due to upfront expenses from selling. I like Toya and Eugene but let’s be completely honest here.

      1. Don’t forget about the very high interest rates. This isn’t a good time to buy a house or a lot because you’re paying peak prices at high interest rates. The profit made wasn’t that big to justify the sale and then turn around and act like viewers are too dumb to understand real estate. We understand real estate very well which is why we’re side eying these two.

  5. It’s really unstable to keep moving around when you have small children. Under a million dollar profit to uproot your children again isn’t impressive honestly. Other cast members make more money than Toya snd Eugene and they don’t have to keep moving around like this.

  6. It is sad that we pry into their personal business they are not sharing. Who cares if they sell their home? More power to them.

    1. Y’all only take this stance when it’s people you actually like. You literally watch a reality show which is about about these people’s personal lives. Don’t be a hypocrite because you like Toya and Eugene. Watching reality television means you’re not minding your business. That’s the whole point.

  7. I believe they sold that home because Toya is never satisfied. She won’t dare let Anila and Quad’s home be larger than hers. Her new home is gonna be even bigger.

  8. Yes you may have made a profit. But now it’s going to cost more to build because of the market. I’m rooting for you.
